In another farmer-friendly measure for the current 2022-23 sugarcane season, the government approved sugar mills to provide fair prices to sugarcane farmers

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved to pay Rs.305 per quintal for sugarcane during the current year's sugarcane season (October to September) considering the welfare of sugarcane farmers.
  • The government has increased the fair price of sugarcane by more than 34 percent in the last 8 years to increase farmers' income. Central Government is committed to improve the economic condition of farmers.
  • 5 crore sugarcane farmers and their dependents will benefit from this decision of the Union Cabinet. Also, it has been informed that 5 lakh employees working in sugarcane mills and related industries will be benefited.
  • With this decision, sugarcane mills are expected to procure more than 3,600 lakh tonnes of sugarcane from farmers during the current 2022-23 sugarcane season, which is expected to fetch farmers Rs 1,20,000 crore.
Union Cabinet approves submission of India's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Action Plan to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved India's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Action Plan to present it to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
  • The Nationally Determined Contribution Action Plan calls for expanding India's contribution towards strengthening global action to address the threat of climate change, as agreed in the Paris Agreement.
  • Such a move would help India reduce carbon emissions on development routes. It will protect the interests of the country and secure its future development needs. By 2030, he put forward plans such as generating 50 percent of the country's total electricity demand in a non-polluting manner.
  • A Revised Defined National Contribution Scheme has been developed to combine these five schemes. The Union Cabinet has approved this.
Suresh N as Corruption Vigilance Commissioner
  • While the post of Central Corruption Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) has been vacant for the past one year, Suresh N. Patel has been acting as the interim CVC since last June. The nomination committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved his appointment as the next CVC last month.
  • In this case, Suresh N. Patel took office as CVC yesterday. He was administered the oath of office by President Drabupati Murmu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and others participated in the ceremony held at the President's House.
  • The Central Corruption Vigilance Commission is headed by the Central Corruption Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). Apart from him, two more can hold the post of Corruption Vigilance Commissioners.

Discovery of 6 layered well near keeladi
  • The 8th phase of excavation work is going on at keeladi near Thirupuvanam, Sivagangai District. Excavation is going on not only at Keeladi, but also at nearby Kontakhai and Akaram.
  • 6 pits are being dug in Akhar and exploration is going on. Ancient potsherds, chips and beads are available here. A few days ago only the mouth of the casing well was seen in one of the pits here.
  • As the digging work continued there, now six wells have been discovered. It is noteworthy that a 33-layer mega casing well was discovered during the year's excavation.
Ramsar award for 6 more wetlands in Tamil Nadu
  • The Ramsar Convention is an international convention on the use and conservation of wetlands.
  • This recognition is given in the name of the city of Ramsar, Iran, as the treaty was signed in 1971. Wetlands of international importance are recognized and awarded Ramsar accreditation.
  • 6 wetlands in Tamil Nadu are Koonthankulam Bird Sanctuary, Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve, Vembanur, Vellodai Bird Sanctuary, Vedathankal Bird Sanctuary & Udayamarthandam Bird Sanctuary have got Ramsar Wetland recognition.
