Minister Rajnath Singh approves ban on import of 780 military equipment to promote domestic production

  • In order to promote Prime Minister Modi's self-reliant India plan, emphasis is being placed on domestic products in all sectors.
  • In this way, the Ministry of Defense banned the import of military equipment parts twice in December last year and March last year in order to promote domestic products in the production of defense equipment.
  • In this case, now for the 3rd time, in order to encourage domestic production, a list of 780 military components, including sophisticated radar systems and sonar equipment, has been prepared.
  • Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved this yesterday. The ban on imports will be phased in from December next year to December 2028. It has been reported that contracts for the purchase of these goods worth Rs 13,000 crore will be entered into with domestic companies within the next 5 years.

Joint exercise of India-US Special Forces concluded in Baglo, Himachal Pradesh
  • The 13th India-US Special Forces Joint Exercise Vajra Prahar 2022 concluded on 28 August 2022 at Baglo. This annual exercise between India and USA takes place in successive years. Accordingly, the 12th exercise was held in October 2021 at Joint Base Lewis-Mc Gard in Washington.
  • This 21-day joint exercise under the UN Charter has provided a great opportunity for the special forces of both countries. This exercise was conducted in two phases. The first phase consisted of training in a counter-resistance situation, special operations in combat tactics and the second phase included a 48-hour evaluation.
  • The armies of both the countries expressed their deep satisfaction with the usefulness of the exercise. Both teams engaged in joint training and planning and execution of various rehearsals.
  • In the current global environment, the Vajra Prahar exercise with US Special Forces assumes significance at a time of security challenges faced by both countries.
  • The joint military exercise will further strengthen the traditional special forces friendship between the two countries. It will also enhance bilateral defense cooperation between India and the US
