India gifted 75 ambulances, 17 buses to Nepal

  • India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day this year. For this, various programs and celebrations are being held across the country. In this case, India has gifted 75 ambulances and 17 school buses to Nepal in order to strengthen the strong and long-term friendship between India and Nepal.
  • The keys were handed over by India's new Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Vastava, in Kathmandu in the presence of Nepal's Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Devendra Baudal. In 2020, 41 ambulances and 6 school buses were gifted on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 151st birthday.
Functions of State Dams Protection Committee / Organisation
  • The State Committee for Dam Safety should be reconstituted every 3 years. The committee meets twice a year and one meeting is held before the onset of monsoon. This meeting is held once in 6 months
  • Hydro-Mechanical works of dams should be inspected before the onset of monsoon.
  • Before the dams are first filled, the State Dam Protection Organization should inspect the particular dam either by engineers or by a team of experts and prepare a detailed report at the initial stage. Eligibility for filling the dam should be duly certified.
  • Dam monitoring, hydrometeorological stations, seismological stations should be monitored.
  • Rehabilitation of Dams makes recommendations on rehabilitation needs of old dams.
  • A meeting should be held every year to select the best maintained dam.
  • The State Dams Safety Committee should issue instructions on safety of dams. Also, if any major problems or hazards are found in the dam, the Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer, State Dam Protection Organization along with the First Phase Committee should inspect the dam and take necessary steps to solve the problems.
  • Every State Dam Safety Organization shall, once in 3 months, prepare an annual report on its activities and safety of specific dams in the State and send such report to the National Dam Safety Authority and the State Government.
  • The National Dam Safety Authority and concerned State Dam Safety Organization will recommend measures to repair specific dam structures if they are found to be affected.
  • Inspection of all 128 dams in Tamil Nadu is carried out by a 5-member team headed by the Superintending Engineer of the State Dam Protection Organization.
  • Then, the structure of the dam, the foundation of the dam, the water bodies upstream of the dam and the nature or use of the land downstream of the dam are compiled and finalized by the engineers.
Issue of Rs 37.50 Lakh Ordinance for scholars and experts to give speeches under the name of 'TN Talk' at Anna Centenary Library.
  • In the Legislative Assembly meeting for the year 2022-2023, during the grant request of the Department of Education, it was announced that in the coordination of the Anna Centenary Library, the speeches of international multidisciplinary experts, scientific researchers, renowned scholars will be held under the name of 'TN talk' with the best technology and theater structure.
  • Subsequently, the event called TN Talk will be held 25 times every year. This unique event will be hosted by top speakers and industry experts.
  • Eminent personalities from every field like literature, economics, education, archaeology, medicine and science will be invited and speak. It will be conducted in association with reputed universities, colleges and government institutions. These events will be implemented by a coordinating committee headed by the Director of Public Libraries.
  • The director had informed in his letter that the cost of 25 events at Rs.1 lakh and 50 thousand per event would be Rs.37 lakh and 50 thousand and that amount should be allocated for the expenditure.
  • After careful consideration of the proposal of the Director of Public Libraries, the Government accepted it and decided to allocate Rs. 37 lakh 50 thousand provides administrative and financial support.
Women's 3000m Running Parul Choudhary National Record
  • Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary set a new national record in the Sound Running Athletics Championship series held in Los Angeles, USA.
  • Choudhary, who was trailing in the final at 5th place, had a great run in the last 2 rounds to finish 3rd and get the bronze medal. He clocked 8 minutes, 57.19 seconds, setting a new national record.
  • Earlier, Parul broke the record set by Suriya Loganathan (9:04.5) in 2016 in Delhi. She also became the first Indian to reach the finish line in the women's 3000m race in less than 9 minutes.
