Commonwealth Opening Ceremony - Indian team led by PV Sindhu, Manpreet

• The 22nd Commonwealth Games in England got off to a roaring start. In the opening ceremony, players from different countries carried the flags of their countries.
• Accordingly, 215 men and women were included in the Indian team for the opening ceremony. Indian Badminton Player PV Sindhu and Indian Men's Hockey Team Captain Manpreet Singh led the Indian team and carried the Indian National Flag at the Commonwealth Opening Ceremony.
• 5,054 players from 72 countries including England, India, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Scotland, New Zealand, Wales, Kenya and Nigeria will participate in this tournament which will be held till August 8.
• 20 sports including Swimming, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Aggie, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Table Tennis, Gymnastics are conducted in 280 categories. A total of 215 players including 111 male and 104 female players are participating in 16 games in the Commonwealth Games.

Technological Development of Indian Languages ​​- Research Center Launched at IIT Chennai

• A project called 'AI4Bharat' has been launched by IIT Chennai with the aim of building technical resources with artificial intelligence for Indian languages. Through this, for the last 2 years various contributions have been made for Indian language technology including Machine Translation and Speech Recognition.
• As a follow up, 'Bharat Nilekani Center' has now been set up at IIT Chennai with the aim of promoting Indian language technology. For this, Nilekani Charitable Organization has provided financial support of Rs.36 crores.
• The inaugural function was held at IIT Guindy campus yesterday. The center was inaugurated by IIT Director V. Kamakody and Nandan Nilekani.

PM Modi launches 3 new projects worth Rs.1,000 crore in Gujarat

• Sabar Dairy Farm is located in Kathoda Chowki, Sabarkanda District, Gujarat. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated 3 projects worth Rs.1,000 crore here. 
• In this, Prime Minister Modi dedicated to the country a milk powder plant with a production capacity of 120 tons per day and a plant for packing 3 lakh liters of processed milk per day.  He also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 600 crore milk products manufacturing plant.

The Prime Minister announced the opening of the 44th Chess Olympiad

• Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated the 44th Chess Olympiad at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. RN Ravi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M. K. Stalin, Union Ministers Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, Mr. L. Murugan, International Chess Federation (FIDE) President Mr. Arkady Orkovich also participated in the event.
• Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the first torch relay of the Chess Olympiad at the Indira Gandhi National Stadium in New Delhi on June 19, 2022. About 20,000 km in last 40 days. The Chess Olympiad torch reached Mahabalipuram, the venue of the tournament, after passing through 75 prestigious venues.
• The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held from July 28 to August 9, 2022 at Mahabalipuram near Chennai. The tournament, which has been held since 1927, is being held for the first time in India and for the first time in Asia after 30 years. Players from 187 countries are participating in this tournament. 30 players from 6 Indian teams will participate in this tournament.
• India is set to play the first general category match of the Chess Olympiad at Mamallapuram. Similarly, USA is going to play in the first tournament for women. The contestants will be selected by tossing dice. The Prime Minister then selected those pieces.
• Then the Prime Minister chose black pieces for India and America. Accordingly, in the first match today, Indian players and American players will play with black pieces.

First signature by President Dravupati Murmu

• Thirupati Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of the country on 25th. In this case, he has put the first signature on the judicial appointment order. He signed the order appointing Rajesh Shekari as Additional Judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
• In this regard, in a statement released by the Union Justice Secretary, 'President Drabupati has appointed Rajesh Shekhari as Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 224 of the Constitution of India. He will be on duty for 2 years from the date of assuming charge,' it has been said.

First indigenous aircraft carrier 'Vikrant' handed over to Indian Navy

• The Indian Navy today created maritime history by taking delivery of the prestigious domestic aircraft carrier Vikrant from Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Cochin. Designed by the Directorate of Naval Design (DND) of the Indian Navy and built by CSL, a public sector shipyard under the Ministry of Shipping (MoS).
• The 'Vikrant' 262-metre long carrier is much larger than its predecessor ships, with a gross displacement of 45,000 tonnes. The vessel is powered by four gas turbines with a total power of 88 MW and a maximum speed of 28 knots. The ship was built at a cost of around 20,000 crore rupees.
• With the delivery of Vikrant, India joins a select group of countries capable of indigenously designing and building an aircraft carrier.

Appointment of 2nd Indian Intermediate Gill as World Bank Chief Economist

• Intermit Gill from India has been appointed as the Chief Economist of the World Bank. 2nd Indian to hold this post. Prior to this, Kaushik Basu was the Chief Economist from 2012-2016. Since then Gill has been appointed.
• Apart from this, India's Raghuram Rajan and World Bank's Chief Economist Geeta Gopinath were also appointed as the Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund. Appointed Intermit Gill as Chief Economist of the World Bank has 20 years of experience at the World Bank from 1993 to 2016.
• Gill has served as Director of Development Policy Design and Chief Economist for Europe and Central Asia in the World Bank's Chief Economist Office.
