Information Technology Department Name Change - Issue of Ordinance

  • The Department of Information Technology was formed on 5th October 1998 to support the development of Information Technology in the State and to ensure the development of e-Governance.
  • The growth of IT and IT services sectors are interrelated. Therefore, achieving integrated development requires a proactive integrated policy approach. In the first phase, the post of Chief Technology Officer has already been created in the IT department to head the growing technology division.
  • A Tamil Nadu Technology Hub (iTNT Hub) is being set up by the government in Chennai to facilitate innovation in emerging and cutting-edge technologies through startups.
  • Therefore, to strengthen the development of IT, IT-based services and digital technology services in the state, it was announced that the department would be renamed as "IT and Digital Services Department" and an ordinance was issued to that effect.

  • Dravupati Murmu holds the distinction of being the first tribal President and the 2nd woman President of the country. He will be sworn in as the President on the 25th.
