Organization meeting of major economies on climate and energy

  • Mr. Bhubaneswar Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, represented India at the Virtual Meeting of the Major Economic Organization for Energy and Climate, chaired by US President Mr. Joseph Biden.
  • The meeting aims to strengthen energy security, tackle the climate crisis and thereby enhance measures to build inspiration for COP27. The meeting was attended by representatives of twenty-three major economies around the world and the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
  • Leaders who attended the meeting shared their efforts to implement their respective climate change pledges. Mr Bhupender Yadav explained India's continued commitment to contributing to the global joint effort to combat climate change.
  • He outlined India's initiatives beyond the scope of the International Solar Energy Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Prevention Infrastructure. He noted that India has already installed 159 gigawatts of fossil fuel-based power generation capacity. In the last seven and a half years, India’s installed solar capacity has increased 18-fold.
  • Mr Yadav said India's annual per capita emissions were only one-third of the global average and less than 4 per cent of its total emissions. But he said India's climate goals are ambitious, reflecting its commitment to the global good.

10 per cent reservation for Agni soldiers in the paramilitary and central security forces

  • Soldiers serving in the Navy in the Agni Path Project will be given special training and certification in 6 divisions on behalf of the Shipping Department. This will enable Agni Path project veterans to join various missions of the shipping industry around the world
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched projects worth Rs 21,000 crore in Gujarat
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Gujarat Honorary Project Ceremony in Vadodara. He then launched various projects worth Rs 21,000 crore and laid the foundation for new projects.

10% reservation for Agni soldiers in 16 public sector companies
  • The 10 per cent quota for Agni soldiers is given by the Indian Coast Guard, civilian positions in the defense sector and 16 public sector companies in the defense sector, including Hindustan Aeronautical Company (HAL), Bharat Electronics (BEL), Bharat Earth Movers Company (BEML) and Bharat Dynamics Limited.   • In order to implement these procedures, necessary amendments will be made in the relevant recruitment rules. Defense-based PSUs are also advised to make similar amendments to their companies' relevant recruitment rules.
  • For the above posts, the required age relaxations will also be provided, depending on the selection of firefighters
Pranati won bronze in Asian gymnastics
  • The 9th Asian Artist Gymnastics Championship Series was held in Qatar. Pranati Naik, 27, from Kolkata and Yogeshwar represented India. Qualifying for the final, he scored 13.767 points in the first round of the vault division.
  • He scored 12.967 points on the second chance to follow. Pranati, who scored 13.367 points overall, secured third place and won the bronze medal.
  • Apart from that the artist also qualified for the Gymnastics World Cup Series. This is the second bronze medal won by Pranati in the Asian Championship Series. He had previously won bronze in 2019.
