- மத்திய அரசின் சுகாதாரம் மற்றும் குடும்ப நலத்துறை அமைச்சகம் ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒரு முறை தேசிய குடும்பநல கணக்கெடுப்பை நடத்துகிறது. 2019 - 2021-ம் ஆண்டுக்கான ஐந்தாம் தேசிய குடும்பநல கணக்கெடுப்பின் முடிவுகள் சமீபத்தில் வெளியானது.
- அதன்படி, தமிழ்நாட்டில் நடைபெறும் பிரசவங்களில் 44.9% சிசேரியன் முறையில் நடைபெறுகிறது. தேசிய அளவில் தெலங்கானா (60.7%) மாநிலத்திற்கு அடுத்தபடியாக தமிழ்நாட்டில்தான் அதிக அளவில் சிசேரியன் பிரசவங்கள் நடைபெறுகின்றன.
- கடந்த 2015 - 2016 ஆண்டுகளில் எடுக்கப்பட்ட நான்காவது குடும்பநல கணக்கெடுப்பில் இது 34.1% ஆக இருந்தது. கடந்த ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளில் மட்டும் சிசேரியன் முறை பிரசவங்கள் 10.8% அதிகரித்துள்ளது. நகர்ப்புறங்களில் 47.5 சதவிகிதமும் கிராமப்புறங்களில் 42.9 சதவிகிதமும் பிரசவங்கள் சிசேரியன் முறையில் நடைபெறுகின்றன.
- அதே சமயம் சிசேரியன் முறையில் நடைபெறும் பிரசவங்கள் அரசு மருத்துவமனைகளை காட்டிலும் தனியார் மருத்துவமனைகளில்தான் அதிகம் நடைபெறுகின்றன.
- நகர்ப்புறங்களில் 61.5%, கிராமப்புறங்களில் 65.7% பிரசவங்கள் தனியார் மருத்துவமனைகளில் நடைபெறுகின்றன. அரசு மருத்துவமனைகளில் நகர்ப்புறங்களில் 37.5%, கிராமப்புறங்களில் 35.1% பிரசவங்கள் நடைபெறுகின்றன.

- Accordingly, 44.9% of births in Tamil Nadu are by caesarean section. Tamil Nadu has the second highest number of caesarean births nationally after Telangana (60.7%).

- 61.5% of births in urban areas and 65.7% in rural areas take place in private hospitals. Government hospitals account for 37.5% of births in urban areas and 35.1% in rural areas.
