• Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a Government of India initiative to honour and celebrate 75 years of advanced India and the magnificent history of its culture, people, and accomplishments.
• This Mahotsav remains dedicated to the Indian people who have not only been instrumental in driving India thus far in its developmental journey and who hold the potential to facilitate Prime Minister Modi’s dream of triggering India 2.0, fuelled by the vibrancy of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
• In addition, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav refers to an epitome of all that is progressive about India’s political, socio-cultural, and economic identity. 
• This Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav officially began on 12th March 2021, which initiated a 75-week countdown to India’s 75th Independence anniversary and will complete after a year on 15th August 2023. 

Understanding Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav meaning and significance

• Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is celebrated to pay homage to India’s freedom movement and freedom fighters. In addition, during this celebration, the country will remember all the significant landmarks during India’s independence movement. India will gain new power for future growth, and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav reminisces the elixir of the value of freedom.
• It echoes motivation from freedom warriors, new visions, new resolutions, and self-dependence. Activities planned under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’

• Curtain Raiser, launching initiatives under India@75: At the curtain-raiser, activities got inaugurated under the theme name India@75. Namely, a website, film, song, Aatmanirbhar Incubator and Aatmanirbhar Charkha.
• PM Narendra Modi inaugurated a website for Amrit Mahotsav. In addition, an ‘Atmanirbhar Incubator’ was embarked that seeks to help almost 40,000 households involved in the conventional art.
• The Central Government has formed a board under Central Home Minister Amit Shah. The panel will draft policies and planning of different events as part of the festivities.
• The Regional Outreach Bureau has arranged a five-day-long handicraft exhibition in Rajasthan.
• In Madhya Pradesh, Amrit Mahotsav of freedom is getting organized at all 52 district offices of the state, including the areas associated with the freedom movement and Jana Nayaks including Orchha, Niwari district related to Tatya Tope, Alirajpur district, the motherland of Chandrashekhar Azad, Jabalpur with Rani Durgavati and numerous more.
• In Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, exhibitions, cycle jatha, tree plantation, and processions were scheduled to remember the freedom fighters.
• As a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ a tremendous outreach initiative titled ‘Conservation to co-existence: The people connect’ has been undertaken by the Mumbai Central Zoo Authority. The movement aims to create awareness about protecting specified 75 wild animal species. Persistent public attention for 75 weeks, topping on 15th August, would help accomplish this.

Inauguration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ with padyatra

• On 12th March 2021, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’

• The Padayatra started with 81 marchers and will be completed on 5th April 2021 after 25 days.
• It has celebrated the 91st anniversary of the historic salt march ushered in by the Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi.
