The Prime Minister launched the Vanijya Bhavan and Niryat website

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 'Vanijya Bhavan' building in Delhi and launched the Niryat website. Union Ministers Mr. Piyush Goyal, Mr. Som Prakash and Mrs. Anupriya Patel were also present on the occasion.
Jihad-24 satellite for communications service launched
  • ISRO's Newspace India Limited (NSIL) has designed the state-of-the-art Jihad-24 satellite to enhance the country's communications facilities. This satellite is ISRO's 42nd communications satellite.
  • The Jihad-24 heavy-duty satellite was airlifted to French Guiana's Koru launch site on May 17. There the heavy rocket was launched yesterday by Ariane-5 and successfully placed in geostationary orbit.
NIA appoints Dinkar Gupta as new Director General
  • Dinkar Gupta, a senior IPS officer, has been appointed the new director general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). In Punjab, Dinkar Gupta, who was selected as an IPS officer in 1987, has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Agency.
  • He will hold the post until his retirement on March 31, 2024. The appointment of Tinker Gupta has been approved by the Nomination Committee of the Union Cabinet.
Passage of the Gun Control Bill in the Senate
  • The bill to impose additional restrictions on the possession of firearms by civilians in the United States was passed by the ruling Democrats in the Senate with the support of some Republican MPs.

Asian Track Championship - Ronaldo Singh wins first silver
  • Indian cyclist Ronaldo Singh has revealed his lifetime achievement by winning a silver medal in the senior division sprint event of the Asian Track Championships. This is his third medal in the championship. He had previously won bronze medals in the 1km time trial and team sprint.
  • Indian junior cyclist Birjit Yumnam won bronze in the 15km points race with 23 points. Korea's Sungyon Lee won the silver medal with 24 points and Uzbekistan's Farouk Boposherov won the gold medal.
  • Sayanika Kokoy, a 19 - year - old Indian, won the bronze medal by beating Kazakhstan's Rinata Sultanova in the final of the 10 km women's scratch race. Yuri Kim won the gold medal and Japan's Kei Furuyama won the silver medal.
  • The Indian team finished fifth in the world-class cycling event with 23 medals (2 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze). Korea finished second with 12 gold, 14 silver and three bronze medals, while Kazakhstan finished third with four gold, four silver and three bronze. Japan tops the medal list with 18 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze.
