• புவி நாள் (Earth Day) என்பது ஆண்டுதோறும் ஏப்ரல் 22ம் நாளன்று புவியின் சுற்றுச் சூழலின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை வலியுறுத்தி, அச்சூழல் மாசடைவதைத் தடுக்கும் நோக்கோடு அனைத்து நாடுகளிலும் 1970ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்பட்டுவரும் ஒரு சிறப்பு நாளாகும்.
• 1969ஆம் ஆண்டு ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்காவின் சான் பிரான்சிஸ்கோ நகரில் யுனெஸ்கோ மாநாடு ஒன்று நிகழ்ந்தது. அக்கூட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொண்டவர்களுள் ஒருவர் ஜான் மெக்கானெல் (John McConnell). அவர் உலக அமைதிக்காகக் குரல்கொடுத்த ஒரு மாமனிதர். 
• மனிதரும் பிற உயிரினங்களும் வாழ்கின்ற பூமியின் அழகைச் சிறப்பிக்கவும், பூமியின் இயற்கைச் சூழலைக் குலைத்து மாசுபடுத்தாமல் காக்கவும் மக்களிடையே விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துவது தேவை என்று அவர் வலியுறுத்தினார்.
• அதோடு, ஆண்டுதோறும் புவி நாள் என்றொரு நாளைக் கொண்டாடுவது பொருத்தம் என்றும் மெக்கானெல் கருத்துத் தெரிவித்தார். இவ்வாறு புவி நாள் என்னும் பெயரும் கருத்தும் எழுந்ததாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது.
• அதே சமயத்தில், ஐக்கிய அமெரிக்காவில் சுற்றுச்சூழலியல் நிபுணரும் மேலவை உறுப்பினருமான கேலார்ட் நெல்சன் என்பவர் சுற்றுச்சூழல் பற்றிய அறிவைப் பரப்பத் தகுந்த நாளாக 1970 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஏப்ரல் 22 நடத்த அழைப்பு விடுத்தார். இந்த நாளின்போது புவியின் வடகோளப் பகுதி வசந்த காலமாகவும், தென்கோளப் பகுதி இலையுதிர் காலமாகவும் காணப்படுகிறது.
• அவரது அழைப்பை ஏற்று 20 மில்லியன் மக்கள் இந்நிகழ்வில் பங்கெடுத்தார்கள். அன்றிலிருந்து ஆண்டுதோறும் இந்நாள் 175 நாடுகளில் (புவி [பூமி] நாளாகக் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது
• சுற்றுச் சூழல் விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துவதே இதன் நோக்கம்.பூமியின் வெப்பநிலை இதே வேகத்தில் அதிகரித்தால் இன்னும் 20 ஆண்டுகளில் கடுமையான உணவு தட்டுப்பாட்டை சந்திக்க வேண்டியிருக்கும் என எச்சரிக்கின்றனர் சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர்கள். 
• கடந்த நுாற்றாண்டில் மட்டும்உலகின் வெப்பம் 0.74 டிகிரி அளவுக்கு உயர்ந்துஉள்ளது. குளிர்காலத்தில் இயல்பைவிட 0.5 டிகிரி வெப்ப நிலை அதிகரித்தால் கோதுமை உற்பத்தி 17 சதவீதம் வரை பாதிக்கிறது. 
• இதனால் நெற்பயிருக்கும் பாதிப்பு ஏற்படுகிறது.இந்த வெப்பநிலை இந்தியாவில் ஏற்படுத்தும் பாதிப்பை விட துருவப்பகுதிகளில் இரு மடங்கு பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது. துருவப்பகுதிகளில் இருக்கும் பனிப்பாறைகள் தொடர்ந்து உருகுகின்றன. 
• இதனால் கடல்மட்டம் வெகுவாக உயரக்கூடும்.நமது பூமியை பள்ளிக் கூடங்களில் இருக்கும் உலக உருண்டை அளவு சிறியதாக கற்பனை செய்து கொண்டால், அதில் இரண்டு பூச்சு பெயின்ட் அளவுக்கே காற்றுமண்டலம் சூழ்ந்துள்ளது. பூமியின் அளவை ஒப்பிடும் போது இது மிகவும் குறைவு. இது தான் நாம் உயிர் வாழ உதவுகிறது.
• ஆபத்தான காஸ்மிக் கதிர்களிலிருந்து நம்மைகாப்பாற்றுகிறது. இது இல்லாவிட்டால் மழையின் வேகத்தை கூட நம்மால் தாங்க முடியாது. இது இப்போது சேதமடைந்து வருவது வேதனைக்குரியது.
• ஒரு லிட்டர் பெட்ரோல் எரிக்கப்படும் போது 4 கிலோ கார்பன் டை ஆக்சைடு வெளியேறி சுற்றுச் சூழலை மாசுபடுத்துகிறது. சுற்றுச்சூழலை பாதுகாக்க நம்மால் பல வழிகளில் உதவ முடியும்.
• சூரிய ஆற்றலை அதிகம் பயன்படுத்தலாம். பெரிய தொழிற்சாலைகள் தங்களுக்கு தேவையான மின்சக்தியை காற்றாலைகளை நிறுவி அதன் மூலம் பெறலாம். மரங்கள் நடுவது, மரங்களை பாதுகாப்பது குறித்து மக்கள் மத்தியில் விழிப்புணர்வைஏற்படுத்த வேண்டும். 
• இப்போது பல தனியார் அமைப்புகளும், சேவை நிறுவனங்கள், ஆன்மிக குழுக்களும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் பாதுகாப்பில்கவனம் செலுத்த தொடங்கியிருப்பதுவரவேற்கத்தக்க விஷயம்.

உலக பூமி தினம் 2022 தீம்

• நமது கிரகத்தில் முதலீடு செய்யுங்கள் - இந்த ஆண்டு, earthday.org, எங்கள் கிரகத்தில் முதலீடு செய்யுங்கள்' என்ற கருப்பொருளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தது. 
• இது அனைத்தையும் மாற்றுவதற்கான தருணம் - வணிக சூழல், அரசியல் சூழல் மற்றும் காலநிலையில் நாம் எவ்வாறு நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கிறோம்.

• Earth Day is a special day that has been observed annually since 1970 in all countries with the aim of emphasizing the importance of the Earth's environment and preventing pollution.
• In 1969, a UNESCO conference was held in San Francisco, USA. One of those attending the meeting was John McConnell. He was a man who spoke out for world peace.
• He stressed the need to create awareness among the people to highlight the beauty of the earth inhabited by humans and other creatures and to protect the natural environment of the earth from being polluted.
• McConnell said it was appropriate to celebrate Earth Day every year. Thus the name and concept of Earth Day is thought to have arisen.
• At the same time, Gallard Nelson, an ecologist and member of the upper house in the United States, called for April 22, 1970, to be a day to spread environmental knowledge. During this day the northern hemisphere is spring and the southern hemisphere is autumn.
• 20 million people accepted his invitation and attended the event. Since then this day has been observed annually in 175 countries
• The aim is to raise environmental awareness. Environmentalists warn that if global temperatures rise at the same rate, there will be severe food shortages in the next 20 years.
• Global warming has risen by 0.74 degrees Celsius in the last century alone. If the temperature rises by 0.5 degrees above normal in winter, wheat production is affected by up to 17 percent.
• This temperature is twice as severe in the polar regions as it is in India. Glaciers in the polar regions continue to melt. Thus, the sea level may rise significantly. This is very small compared to the size of the earth. This is what helps us survive.
• Protects us from dangerous cosmic rays. Without it we would not even be able to withstand the speed of the rain. It is painful to be damaged now. When a liter of petrol is burned, 4 kg of carbon dioxide is released and pollutes the environment. We can help protect the environment in many ways.
• Solar energy can be used more. Large factories can install wind turbines to get the electricity they need. We need to create awareness among the people about planting trees and protecting the trees.
• It is to be welcomed that now many private organizations, service organizations and spiritual groups have begun to focus on environmental protection.
