• மத்திய நிதியமைச்சர் நிர்மலா சீதாராமன் 2022-23ஆம் ஆண்டுக்கான மத்திய பட்ஜெட்டை தாக்கல் செய்த போது, இந்தியாவில் இ-பாஸ்போர்ட் விரைவில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்படும் என்றும், இது இந்திய குடிமக்களின் பயண வசதியை மேம்படுத்தும் என்றும் அப்போது அறிவித்தார். அதிக பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் நெறிப்படுத்தப்பட்ட சரிபார்ப்பு செயல்முறையை இ-பாஸ்போர்ட் வழங்கும் என்றும் கூறினார்.
• டாக்குமென்ட் மற்றும் chip-ன் பண்புகள் சர்வதேச சிவில் ஏவியேஷன் ஆர்கனைசேஷன் (ICAO) டாக்குமென்ட் 9303-ல் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளன. 
• இ-பாஸ்போர்ட் பற்றி கூறி உள்ள அரசு அதிகாரிகள், இந்தியர்களுக்கான சர்வதேச பயண அனுபவம் இப்போது இ-பாஸ்போர்ட்களின் உதவியுடன் மிகவும் பாதுகாப்பானதாக மற்றும் வசதியாக இருக்கும். 

நன்மைகள்

• இ-பாஸ்போர்ட் உள்ள பயணிகள் சில நொடிகளில் ஸ்கேன் செய்து விடுவதால், நீண்ட நேரம் வரிசையில் நிற்க வேண்டியதில்லை. 
• இ-பாஸ்போர்ட் தனிநபர்களின் பயோமெட்ரிக் பதிவை கொண்டிருக்கும் என்பதால் டேட்டா திருட்டு மற்றும் டூப்ளிகேட் பாஸ்போர்ட் உள்ளிட்ட மோசடிகளை தடுக்கும். மேலும் பாஸ்போர்ட் டேட்டாக்களின் சிறந்த பாதுகாப்பை உறுதி செய்யும்.
• புதிய இ-பாஸ்போர்ட்டுகளில் ஒரு சிப் இன்ஸ்டால் செய்யப்பட்டு இருக்கும். ஸ்கேன் செய்வதன் மூலம் பயணிகளை பற்றிய அனைத்து முக்கிய தகவல்களையும் அணுகலாம். 
• அறிக்கைகளின்படி தனிநபர்களின் அடையாளத்தைக் கண்டறிய இ-பாஸ்போர்ட், ரேடியோ-அதிர்வெண் அடையாளம் (RFID - radio-frequency identification) மற்றும் பயோமெட்ரிக்ஸை பயன்படுத்தும் என தெரிகிறது. 
• பாஸ்போர்ட்டில் அறிமுகமாக உள்ள இந்த புதிய தொழில்நுட்பம் அனைத்து குடிமக்களுக்கும் சிறப்பான பயண அனுபவத்தை அளிக்கும். 
• பயணிகளின் பெயர், முகவரி, ஐடி ப்ரூஃப் மற்றும் பயோமெட்ரிக் விவரங்கள் போன்ற தனிப்பட்ட தகவல்களை கொண்ட பாஸ்போர்ட்டில் சிப் பதிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும். 
• மாதிரி இ-பாஸ்போர்ட்டுகள் தற்போது சோதனை செய்யப்பட்டு வருவதாகவும், தொழில்நுட்ப சூழல் அமைப்பு மற்றும் உள்கட்டமைப்பு முடிந்தவுடன் முழு அளவிலான உற்பத்தி மற்றும் வெளியீடு தொடங்கும்
• இ-பாஸ்போர்ட்டின் சிப் சேதப்படுத்தப்பட்டிருந்தால் கணினியால் அதை கண்டறிய முடியும். இ-பாஸ்போர்ட் பாதுகாப்பான பயோமெட்ரிக் தரவு மற்றும் இமிகிரேஷன் போஸ்ட்கள் மூலம் உலகளவில் சுமூக பயணத்திற்கு உதவும் என்று அரசு அதிகாரிகள் கூறி உள்ளனர். 
• இ-பாஸ்போர்ட் வழங்குவதற்கான தொழில்நுட்பப் பொறுப்புகளை தேசிய தகவல் மையத்திடம் (என்ஐசி) வெளியுறவு அமைச்சகம் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளதாக மத்திய அரசு தகவல் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

• Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for 2022-23, she announced that the e-passport would soon be introduced in India, which would improve the travel facilities of Indian citizens. He also said that e-passport will provide more security and streamlined verification process.
• The document and the properties of the chip are listed in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Document 9303.
• Government officials who were talking about e-passport said that the international travel experience for Indians will now be much safer and more convenient with the help of e-passports.

Benefits

• Passengers with e-passports do not have to stand in line for long as they can be scanned in a matter of seconds.
• The e-passport will contain the biometric record of the individuals so as to prevent data theft and fraud including duplicate passports. And ensure better security of passport data.
• Newer e-passports will have a chip installed. All important information about travelers can be accessed by scanning.
• According to reports, the e-passport will use radio-frequency identification (RFID) and biometrics to identify individuals.
• Introduced in the passport, this new technology will provide a better travel experience for all citizens.
• The chip is embedded in the passport containing personal information such as the passenger's name, address, ID proof and biometric details.
• Sample e-passports are currently being tested and will begin production and release at full capacity once the technical environment and infrastructure are completed.
• If the chip of the e-passport is damaged the computer can detect it. Government officials say the e-passport will facilitate social travel globally through secure biometric data and immigration posts.
• According to the Central Government, the Ministry of External Affairs has handed over the technical responsibility for issuing e-passports to the National Information Center (NIC).
