- ஆர்பர் டே அறக்கட்டளை மற்றும் ஐ.நா.வின் உணவு மற்றும் விவசாய அமைப்பு இணைந்து ஆண்டுதோறும் 'உலகின் மர நகரம்' என்ற அங்கீகாரத்தை உலகில் உள்ள நகரங்களுக்கு வழங்கி வருகிறது.
- இந்த ஆண்டு மும்பையை "உலகின் மர நகரம் 2021" ஆக அறிவித்துள்ளது. இந்த பட்டத்தை வெல்லும் இந்தியாவின் இரண்டாவது நகரம் மும்பை ஆகும். ஏனெனில் கடந்த இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளாக தொடர்ந்து ஐதராபாத் 'உலகின் மர நகரம்' என்ற பட்டத்தை பெற்று இந்தியாவிற்கு பெருமை சேர்த்துள்ளது.
- வேகமாக வளர்ந்து வரும் நகர்ப்புற காடுகளுக்கு மத்தியில் பசுமையை நிலைநிறுத்துவதற்காக அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட 21 நாடுகளைச் சேர்ந்த 138 நகரங்களின் குழுவில் வட இந்தியாவின் தூக்க நகரமான மும்பையும் இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
- உலகின் மர நகரங்கள் திட்டத்தின் அதிகாரப்பூர்வ வலைத்தளத்தின் தகவல்களின் படி, மும்பையில் மொத்தம் 4.25 லட்சம் மரங்கள் நடப்பட்டுள்ளன மற்றும் ஒரு மணி நேரத்தில் 25,000 தன்னார்வலர்களை உருவாக்குவதால் இந்த அங்கீகாரம் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
- ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் சபையின் உணவு மற்றும் வேளாண்மை அமைப்பு (UN) மற்றும் ஆர்பர் டே அறக்கட்டளை ஆகியவற்றால் ஒரு மர நகரமாக அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட சில தரநிலைகள் பூர்த்தி செய்யப்பட்டிருக்க வேண்டும்.
- அதாவது காடுகள் மற்றும் மரங்களை நிர்வகிப்பதற்கான உத்தியோகபூர்வ கொள்கையை வைப்பது, மர மேலாண்மை திட்டத்திற்காக வருடாந்திர பட்ஜெட்டை அர்ப்பணிப்பது மற்றும் மரங்களை வளர்ப்பது பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த வருடாந்திர கொண்டாட்டங்களை நடத்துவது போன்றவை இதில் அடங்கும்.
- The Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) annually recognize cities around the world as the 'Wooden City of the World'.
- This year Mumbai has been declared the "Wooden City of the World 2021". Mumbai is the second city in India to win this title. This is because for the last two years, Hyderabad has been proud to be the 'Wooden City of the World'.
- Mumbai, the sleeping city of northern India, has been included in the group of 138 cities from 21 countries recognized for maintaining greenery among the fastest growing urban forests.
- According to the official website of the World Tree Cities project, a total of 4.25 lakh trees have been planted in Mumbai and this recognition has been given for creating 25,000 volunteers in an hour.
- To be recognized as a timber city by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN) and the Arbor Day Foundation, certain standards must be met.
- That means setting an official policy for managing forests and trees, dedicating an annual budget to a tree management plan, and holding annual celebrations to raise awareness about tree planting.
