• உலக சிட்டுக்குருவிகள் நாள் 2024 / WORLD HOUSE SPARROW DAY 2024: உலக சிட்டுக்குருவிகள் நாள் (World House Sparrow Day - WHSD), ஆண்டுதோறும் மார்ச் 20ஆம் நாள் அன்று உலகெங்கும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. 
• சிட்டுக்குருவிகளின் எண்ணிக்கை அண்மைக் காலங்களில் குறைந்து வருவதன் காரணமாகவும், நாள்தோறும் தமது வாழ்வுக்காக அவை எதிர்நோக்கும் பிரச்சினைகளை மக்களுக்கு எடுத்துக்கூறி அதன் மூலம் விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த இந்நாள் 2010ஆம் ஆண்டிலிருந்து உலக சிட்டுக்குருவிகள் நாளாக நினைவுகூரப்படுகிறது.
• மனிதரைச் சுற்றியுள்ள பொதுவான உயிரியற் பல்வகைமை (biodiversity) மற்றும் அவற்றின் முக்கியத்துவம் குறித்து எடுத்துக் கூறுவதற்கும் இந்நாள் நினைவுகூரப்படுகிறது.

அழியும் குருவிகள்

• உலக சிட்டுக்குருவிகள் நாள் 2024 / WORLD HOUSE SPARROW DAY 2024: மனிதனின் பழக்க வழக்கங்களில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள மிகப்பெரிய மாறுதல்கள், நவீன தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப புரட்சி, இயற்கைக்கு மாறாக எடுக்கப்படும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் நடவடிக்கை போன்ற காரணங்களால், சிட்டுக்குருவி எனும் சிற்றினம் அழிவுப்பாதைக்கு தள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளது.

• எரிவாயுக்களில் இருந்து வெளியேறும், மெத்தைல் நைத்திரேட் எனும் வேதியியல் கழிவுப் புகையால், காற்று மாசடைந்து குருவிகளை வாழ வைக்கும் பூச்சி இனங்கள் அழிகின்றன. இதனால் ஏற்படும் உணவுப் பற்றாக்குறையால், நகருக்குள் வாழும் குருவிகள் பட்டினி கிடந்தே அழிகின்றன.
• பலசரக்கு கடைகள் மூடப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. அவற்றிற்குப் பதிலாக, பல்பொருள் அங்காடிகள் அதிகளவு வளர்ந்து வருகின்றன. இங்கு நெகிழிப் பைகளில் தானியங்கள் அடைத்து விற்கப்படுவதால், வீதிகளில் தானியங்கள் சிதற வாய்ப்பில்லை.
• வீட்டுத் தோட்டங்கள், வயல்களில் பயிர்களுக்கு பூச்சிக்கொல்லி தெளித்து, பூச்சிகள் கொல்லப்படுகின்றன. இதன் காரணமாக, உணவு இல்லாமல் குருவிகள் அழிகின்றன.
• அலைபேசிகளின் வருகைக்குப் பின், குருவிகளின் அழிவு அதிகரித்து விட்டன. அலைபேசிக் கோபுரங்களில் இருந்து வெளியேறும் கதிர்வீச்சு, குருவியின் கருவை சிதைக்கிறது. முட்டையிட்டாலும், கருவளர்ச்சி அடையாமல் வீணாகிறது.

• The day is also remembered for highlighting the common biodiversity around humans and their importance.

Endangered birds

• WORLD HOUSE SPARROW DAY 2024: The genus Sparrow is on the verge of extinction due to major changes in human habits, modern information technology revolution and unnatural environmental action.
• This bird extinction was first observed by scientists in the 1990s. There are many reasons for this.
• Throughout the house, in air-conditioned houses, the birds were unable to build nests so that outside air could not enter the house.
• Methyl nitrate, a chemical effluent emitted from gases, pollutes the air and kills insects that feed on birds. Due to the shortage of food, the birds living in the city are starving.
• Grocery stores are closing. Instead, supermarkets are growing more and more. Grains are not likely to scatter in the streets as they are sold in plastic bags here.
• Home gardens and fields are sprayed with pesticides to kill the pests. Due to this, the birds perish without food.
• With the advent of mobile phones, the extinction of birds has increased. The radiation emitted from the telephone towers destroys the bird's nucleus. Even if the egg is laid, it is wasted without reaching the embryo.
