- புற்றுநோயை பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்தவும் இந்த கொடிய நோய் வராமல் தடுக்கவும், புற்றுநோயை கண்டறிதல் மற்றும் சிகிச்சையை ஊக்குவிக்கவும் ஆண்டுதோறும் பிப்ரவரி 4 (இன்று) உலக புற்றுநோய் தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
- ஆனால், தொற்றாத நோய்களான புற்றுநோய், நீரிழிவு, இதய நோய் போன்றவை முன்பை விட அதிகரித்துள்ளது. தாலுகாவுக்கு ஒருவர் புற்றுநோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த காலம் மாறி, தெருவுக்கு ஒருவராக அதிகரித்தது.

- புற்றுநோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களில் ஆண்களில் 8 பேரில் ஒருவரும், பெண்களில் 11 பேரில் ஒருவரும் உயிரிழப்பதாகவும் கூறுகின்றனர்.
- புற்றுநோய் குறித்த போதிய விழிப்புணர்வு இல்லாமையாலும் ஆண்டுக்கு ஆண்டு புற்றுநோயால் உயிரிழப்பவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகரித்து வருகிறது.
- இந்நிலையில் 2000ம் ஆண்டில் இருந்து புற்றுநோய் பாதிப்புகளை தடுப்பது குறித்த விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்தும் வகையில் உலக புற்றுநோய் தினம் பிப்ரவரி 4ம் தேதி (இன்று) அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
- இந்தியாவில் புற்றுநோயால் பாதிக்கப்படுபவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகரித்துக் கொண்டே தான் செல்கிறது. அதன்படி, கடந்த 2020ம் ஆண்டில் மட்டும் 13,24,413 பேர் புற்று நோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.
- இதில் ஆண்கள் 6,46,030 பேரும், பெண்கள் 6,78,383 பேரும் அடங்குவார்கள்.
- மேலும், கடந்த ஆண்டில் 8,51,678 பேர் உயிரிழந்துள்ளனர். அதன்படி, இந்தியாவில் 9 பேரில் ஒருவருக்கு புற்றுநோய் இருப்பதாக புள்ளி விவரங்கள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன.
- ஆண்களில் 68 பேரில் ஒருவருக்கு நுரையீரல் புற்றுநோயும், பெண்களில் 29 பேரில் ஒருவருக்கு மார்பக புற்றுநோயாலும் பாதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். குறிப்பாக மார்பகம், வாய் புற்றுநோய், கர்ப்பப்பை வாய், இரைப்பை, நுரையீரல் புற்றுநோய் பாதிப்புகள்தான் அதிகம்.

- தமிழகத்தில் கடந்த 2020ம் ஆண்டில் ஆண்கள் 35,863 பேரும், பெண்கள் 42,778 பேரும் என மொத்தமாக 78,641 பேர் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர். இதில் ஆண்களை விட பெண்கள்தான் அதிகளவில் பாதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர்.

- WORLD CANCER DAY 2024: Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide after heart disease. World Cancer Day is observed annually on February 4 (today) to raise awareness about cancer and to prevent the spread of this deadly disease and to promote cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- But noncommunicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease are on the rise. The period when one person was diagnosed with cancer per taluka changed and increased to one per street.
- We are currently standing as one on the neighborhood side. Statistics show that one in 5 people worldwide has cancer. It is estimated that one in 8 men and one in 11 women die from cancer.
- The number of cancer deaths is increasing year by year due to lack of awareness about cancer. World Cancer Day is observed on February 4 (today) to raise awareness about the prevention of cancer since 2000.
- The number of cancer victims in India is on the rise. Accordingly, in the year 2020 alone, 13,24,413 people were diagnosed with cancer. This includes 6,46,030 males and 6,78,383 females. In addition, 8,51,678 people died last year. Accordingly, statistics show that one in 9 people in India has cancer.

- In Tamil Nadu, a total of 78,641 people has been affected by the year 2020, including 35,863 males and 42,778 females. Women are more affected than men. Statistics show that complete control of tobacco and tobacco products can increase the average life expectancy of humans by up to 10 years.
The historical facts behind this day
- Founded in 1993, the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC) established World Cancer Day in 2000. The WHO and many international organizations have been supporting the UICC in its efforts to co-ordinate and spread cancer awareness worldwide.
- The decision to observe this day was made at the first World Summit Against Cancer held in Paris. Leaders of government agencies and cancer organizations around the world have produced a document containing 10 articles outlining the global commitment to improving the quality of life of cancer patients.
- This document is called the Anti-Cancer Charter Of Paris. It aims to consistently invest in advances in cancer research, prevention and treatment worldwide.
How is the UICC organization raising awareness on this day?
- WORLD CANCER DAY 2024: The UICC system works with the sole purpose of saving millions of people from cancer throughout the year. And to raise awareness on this day, the UICC Health Organization has been working with cancer organizations to organize educational activities and publish public service announcements.
