டார்வின் தினம் உருவானது எப்படி?- பிப்ரவரி 12, 1809ம் ஆண்டு இங்கிலாந்தில் உள்ள சுரூஸ்பெரி என்ற டவுனில் ராபர்ட் டார்வின், சுசானா டார்வின் என்ற தம்பதிக்கு மகனாக பிறந்தார் சார்லஸ் டார்வின்.
- சிறுவயதிலேயே இயற்கையின் மீது ஆர்வம் கொண்ட சார்லஸ், பூச்சிகள், பறவைகள் மீது அதிக ஆர்வம் காட்டி வந்தார். இளம் பருவத்தில் ஆர்வம் இல்லாமல் மருத்துவ படிப்பில் சேர்ந்த டார்வின், அதன் பின்னர் தந்தையின் அறிவுரையின் படி கேம்ஃப்ரிட்ஜ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் இறையியல் எனப்படும் natural 'theology' படித்தார்.
- 22 வயதில் பட்டம் பெற்ற டார்வின், உடனடியாக தனது நண்பரும், கப்பல் கேப்டனுமான ராபர்ட் பிட்ஸ்ராய் என்பவருடன் இணைந்து பல இடங்களில் சுற்றுப்பயணம் மேற்கொண்டார்.
- அந்த பயணம் மூலம பல விலங்குகள், பறவைகள், ஊர்வன ஆகியனவற்றின் எலும்புகளை சேகரித்தார். அந்த ஆராய்ச்சியின் விளைவாகவே உயிரினங்களின் பரிமாண தத்துவத்தை டார்வினால் வெளிக்கொணர முடிந்தது.
- இதனை மையமாக கொண்டு 1859ஆம் ஆண்டு 'இயற்கையில் உயிரினங்களின் தோற்றம்' (The Origin of Species by Natural Selection) என்ற உலகையே வியப்பில் ஆழ்த்திய புத்தகத்தை வெளியிட்டார்.
