Advisory Committee headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin to improve the facilities of devotees in Hindu temples and to streamline the maintenance of temples

  • The Government of Tamil Nadu has set up an Advisory Committee headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin to improve the facilities of devotees in all Hindu temples and to streamline the maintenance of temples in the field of Hindu Temples.
  • The high-level committee is chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin and chaired by Treasury Minister Sekar Babu. In addition, the non-official members of the 17-member committee will be Kunrakkudi Ponnambala Adigalar, S.K.

North Korea conducts missile test again

Increase in election expenses for candidates
  • The Union Law Ministry has increased the parliamentary and legislative election expenses for candidates. The spending ceiling has been raised after consultation with the Election Commission.
  • In states including Tamil Nadu, the maximum amount of candidates' expenses in parliamentary elections is Rs. 70 lakh to Rs. 95 lakhs. In other states, Rs. The ceiling was set at Rs 54 lakh. 75 lakhs.
  • Similarly, in the Assembly elections including Tamil Nadu, the maximum amount of candidate expenditure is Rs. 28 lakh to Rs. 40 lakhs. In other states the ceiling is Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 28 lakhs.
Union Cabinet approves implementation of green energy projects in 7 states including Tamil Nadu and Gujarat
  • 7 states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka have been included in the second phase of the Green Energy Project. The Union Cabinet has approved the second phase of the inter-state green power line project.
  • The central government has decided to implement the second phase of the Rs 12,031 crore green energy project. The second phase of the Green Energy Project aims to generate about 20 GW of renewable energy in 7 states, including Tamil Nadu.
  • It has set a target of producing 450 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. According to the Union Cabinet, Rs 3,970.34 crore will be shared among the seven states under the scheme.
  • The states concerned have been advised to complete the second KATA Green Energy Project within 5 years. Accordingly, the Green Energy Project is being implemented in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
The Union government has released Rs 183.67 crore as revenue shortfall grant to Tamil Nadu this month
  • 17 states including Tamil Nadu Rs. 9,871 crore was ordered by the Union Government. Tamil Nadu has received Rs. 1,836.67 crore has been released by the Union Government. The Union Finance Ministry today released Rs 9,871 crore as post-revenue sharing revenue deficit subsidy to 17 states.
  • This is the 10th installment of the grant released to the states. So far in the current financial year, Rs 98,710 crore has been released to eligible states. According to Article 275 of the Constitution, the monthly installment is being released on the basis of the 15th Finance Commission recommendation to offset the revenue shortfalls of the post-revenue states.

Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between India and Turkmenistan in the field of Disaster Management
  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation between India and Turkmenistan in the field of disaster management. The Union Cabinet headed by Narendra Modi has given its approval.
  • Through this Memorandum of Understanding, both India and Turkmenistan will be able to benefit from disaster management processes and strengthen readiness, resilience and capacity building in the field of disaster management.
  • To date, India has signed bilateral / multilateral agreements / memorandum of understanding / cooperation agreement / cooperation in the field of disaster management with Switzerland, Russia, Germany, Japan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Italy and SAARC.
Union Cabinet approves India-Spain agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters
  • The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an Indo-Spanish agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters.
  • This agreement will help to obtain confidential, reliable and expeditious information needed to catch and investigate customs evasion offenders and related offenses.
  • The agreement will provide legal procedures for the exchange of information between customs officials of the two countries, as well as enforce customs laws, facilitate the detection, investigation and fair trade of customs offenses.
Union Cabinet approves Memorandum of Understanding between India and Nepal for construction of a bridge between Tarsula (India) - Tarsula (Nepal) across the Mahakali River
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Nepal for the construction of a bridge between Darsula (India) and Darsula (Nepal) across the Mahakali River.
  • Through this agreement, the friendship between the two countries will be further strengthened. As close neighbors, India and Nepal share unique friendships and cooperation. 
  • It is characterized by an open frontier and deeply rooted interpersonal relationships of relationships and culture. India and Nepal work together in different regional forums i.e. SAARC, BIMSTEC and global forums.
Rs 6,872 crore approved for Rajasthan for drinking water supply projects under Jal Jeevan project
  • At the state level project approval committee meeting held on January 5, 2022, it was approved to provide Rs 6,872.28 crore to Rajasthan for drinking water supply projects under the Jal Jeevan scheme.
  • The projects will provide piped water to more than 6.56 lakh rural households in 3,213 villages spread across 27 districts. Of these, 5 are large projects covering several villages and the rest are single village projects.
NHBC contracts with Gedkal for 500 MW floating solar power projects
  • NHBC Ltd., India's leading hydroelectric company, signed a promoter agreement with Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha Ltd. (GedCall), a leading state-owned public sector undertaking in Odisha in the renewable energy sector, on 04 January 2022 for the production of 500 MW on various solar power projects.
  • By signing this agreement, NHBC and GedCall agree to jointly establish a company to implement 500 MW floating solar power projects in Odisha. Shares of NHBC and GedCall will be 74:26 in the proposed joint venture. The authorized share capital of the company is Rs. 500 crore and the share capital initially paid would be Rs. 10 crore.
  • In the first phase, 300 MW of floating solar power will be installed in Rengali HE Reservoir. The project will be implemented under the 8th terminal of the Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Park, Solar Park project.
  • The project, which will be implemented for the first time in Odisha, is the largest in the country. It will not only create investment and employment, but also help the state achieve the target of renewable energy production and procurement.
