- கண் இமைக்கும் நொடியில் மிக பெரிய செயலாக்கங்களை கணினியை கொண்டு நாம் செய்து முடித்து விடலாம். ஆனால் கணினி பற்றிய அறிவு பெரும்பாலான மக்களுக்கு இந்த 21 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டிலும் சென்றடையவில்லை என்பது தான் வருத்தமான விஷயம்.
- கணினி அறிவையும் அடிப்படையான ஒன்றாக நாம் முதலில் கருத வேண்டும். இந்த கருத்தை ஆதரிக்கும் வகையில், ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் டிசம்பர் 2ம் தேதியில் 'உலக கணினி எழுத்தறிவு தினம்' உலகம் முழுவதும் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. அந்த வகையில் கணினி எவ்வாறு செயல்படுகிறது,
- அதில் உள்ள புரோகிராம்களை புரிந்து கொள்ளுதல் ஆகியவையே கணினி எழுத்தறிவு என்று குறிப்பிடப்படுகிறது. இன்று உலகில் நிலவும் டிஜிட்டல் ஏற்ற தாழ்வை குறைப்பதற்கு இந்த நாளை பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும்.
- உலக கணினி எழுத்தறிவு தினமானது இந்தியாவில் முதன்முதலில் 2001ம் ஆண்டில் என்.ஐ.ஐ.டி என்கிற இந்திய நிறுவனமானது தனது 20ம் ஆண்டு விழாவை கொண்டாடும்போது இந்த நாளை அறிமுகம் செய்தது. கணினி பயன்பாட்டில் உள்ள அறிவின்மையை நீக்கும் நோக்கத்தோடு அப்போது இந்த தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டது.
- உலகளவில் ஆண்கள் தான் அதிக அளவில் கணினி பயன்பாட்டை கொண்டுள்ளனர். மேலும் பெண்கள் மற்றும் குழந்தைகள் மிக குறைவான அளவிலேயே கணினி மற்றும் இதர தொழில்நுட்பங்களை பயன்படுத்தி வருகின்றனர் என்பதை இவர்கள் கவனித்துள்ளனர்.
- அதைத் தொடர்ந்து, ஆண்களுக்கு மட்டுமின்றி பெண்களுக்கும் கணினி பற்றிய அறிவை கற்பிக்க வேண்டும் என்கின்ற குறிக்கோளுடன், இந்நிறுவனம் இந்த தினத்தை தொடங்கியது.
- அதன் பிறகு இந்தியாவில் 2001 முதல், ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் உலக கணினி எழுத்தறிவு தினம் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. இன்றைய உலகில் கணினி உதவியை நாம் பெரிதும் நாடியுள்ளோம்.
- எனவே இந்த தினத்தின் மூலம் கணினி சார்ந்த அறிவை மேம்படுத்தும் வகையிலான செயல்பாடுகள் மற்றும் பிரச்சாரங்களை ஏற்படுத்தி மக்களிடம் இதை பற்றி ஊக்குவிக்க வேண்டும் என்பதே இந்நாளின் முக்கியத்துவமாகும்.
- ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் உலக கணினி எழுத்தறிவு தினத்தை அனுசரிக்கும் போது ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட நோக்கத்தை (theme) முன்வைத்து அனுசரிக்கப்படும்.
- அந்த வகையில் இந்த 2021 ஆம் ஆண்டில் மனிதனை மையமாகக் கொண்ட மீட்புக்கான எழுத்தறிவு: டிஜிட்டல் பிரிவைக் குறைக்கிறது ('Literacy for human-centered recovery: Narrowing the digital divide') என்கிற தலைப்பை கொண்டு உலகெங்கிலும் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது.

- World Computer Literacy Day was first introduced in India in 2001 by NIIT, an Indian company celebrating its 20th anniversary. This day was observed then with the aim of eliminating ignorance in computer usage.
- Globally, men have the highest computer use. They also noticed that women and children were using computers and other technologies to a lesser extent.
- Following that, the company started this day with the aim of teaching computer knowledge not only to men but also to women.
- Since then, World Computer Literacy Day has been observed in India every year since 2001. In today's world we have a great deal of computer help.
- So the importance of this day is to create activities and campaigns to improve computer based knowledge and to encourage people about this.
- Each year, World Computer Literacy Day is celebrated with a specific theme. As such, it is being observed around the world under the theme 'Literacy for human-centered recovery: Narrowing the digital divide' by 2021.
