- ஒரு புகை கோபுரம் என்பது காற்று மாசுபாட்டுத் துகள்களைக் குறைப்பதற்காக ஒரு பெரிய அளவிலான காற்று சுத்திகரிப்பாளராக வேலை செய்ய வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
- நாடு மற்றும் உலகெங்கிலும் மிகவும் மாசுபட்ட நகரங்களில் ஒன்றாகவும், கடந்த சில ஆண்டுகளாக காற்றின் தரத்தில் பெரும் வீழ்ச்சியைக் கண்ட டெல்லிக்கு இது இன்றியமையாத கருவியாகும்.

- இரண்டு புகை கோபுரங்களும் டாடா ப்ராஜெக்ட்ஸ் லிமிடெட் (TPL),ஐஐடி மும்பை மற்றும் ஐஐடி டெல்லி உடன் இணைந்து கட்டப்பட்டது. இதற்கு நேஷனல் கட்டிடங்கள் கட்டுமான நிறுவனம் (NBCC) இந்தியா லிமிடெட் திட்ட மேலாண்மை ஆலோசகராக நியமிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
- ஆனந்த் விஹாரில் உள்ள சிபிசிபி கோபுரத்திற்கான நோடல் ஏஜென்சியாகவும், கன்னாட் பிளேஸில் உள்ள புகை கோபுரத்திற்கு டெல்லி மாசுக்கட்டுப்பாட்டு குழு நோடல் ஏஜென்சி என்றும் பிடிஐ தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
- இரண்டு கோபுரங்களும் அமெரிக்காவில் மினசோட்டா பல்கலைக்கழக நிபுணர்களால் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட 1,200 ஏர் ஃபில்டர்களைப் பயன்படுத்தும். அவற்றைச் சுற்றியுள்ள ஒரு கிலோமீட்டர் சுற்றளவில் PM 2.5 மாசுபாட்டின் செறிவை 70 சதவீதம் வரை குறைப்பதாக மதிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

- Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has said that the central government has built a 25-meter-high smoke tower at Anand Vihar, which will be operational by the end of August.
- The two smoke towers were built in collaboration with Tata Projects Limited (TPL), IIT Mumbai and IIT Delhi. The National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) India Limited has been appointed as Project Management Consultant.
- PTI has been appointed as the nodal agency for the CBCB tower at Anand Vihar and the Delhi Pollution Control Board as the nodal agency for the smoke tower at Connaught Place.
- Both towers will use 1,200 air filters developed by experts at the University of Minnesota in the United States. It is estimated that PM 2.5 reduces the concentration of pollutants by up to 70 percent within a kilometer radius around them.
