Passage of a Bill giving additional powers to the Indian Food Processing Technology Institute at Thanjavur

  • Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Bankruptcy Procedure Amendment Bill. He said, “The basic customs duty on pulses has been reduced to 10 per cent.
  • The National Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management Bill was then passed by a unanimous vote in the Lok Sabha. The bill would give additional powers to the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship Training in Kundli, Haryana.
  • Both these institutions will be given autonomy. The bill states that it will be empowered to introduce innovative vocational courses. Similarly, the Companies (Amendment) Bill was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha.
