Passage of a Bill giving additional powers to the Indian Food Processing Technology Institute at Thanjavur
- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Bankruptcy Procedure Amendment Bill. He said, “The basic customs duty on pulses has been reduced to 10 per cent.
- The National Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management Bill was then passed by a unanimous vote in the Lok Sabha. The bill would give additional powers to the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship Training in Kundli, Haryana.
- Both these institutions will be given autonomy. The bill states that it will be empowered to introduce innovative vocational courses. Similarly, the Companies (Amendment) Bill was passed by voice vote in the Lok Sabha.
Eduyurappa resigns as Karnataka Chief Minister
- Eduyurappa resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister following orders from BJP leaders due to infighting. He submitted his resignation letter to Governor Thavarchand Kelad.
- Despite being prime minister four times, Eduardo has not been able to rule fully for 5 years. Following the overthrow of the Majatha-Congress alliance in Karnataka, the Eduyurappa-led BJP government was formed on July 26, 2019.
Discovery of a moat in a fort moat in the Alangam area under Tanjore
- During the excavation work of the Smart City project in the lower Alangam area of Thanjavur, an aqueduct was discovered in the area. In the lower, upper, southern and northern Alangam areas of Thanjavur city, the moat cut by the kings is surrounded by water and the fort has been a bulwark for the palace.
- The trench is partly a moat in the upper, northern, and lower ornamental areas, with buildings built in one area. The inner walls of this moat are found in ancient constructions. Occupancies are currently being cleared and ditches are being dug in the Smart City project to improve the moat.
- In this case, the fort wall walls of the moat in the area adjacent to the corner of the flagpole are strongly built with red stones. In the meanwhile, the study found that the water column was located in the narrow passage.
- These aqueducts are the underground passages that allow rainwater to fall into the interior of the palace and into the moat where the ponds and wells could exit. The waterway is three-quarters of a square in shape with red stones on all four sides
