Chief Minister MK Stalin's announcement of the appointment of new members to the State Development Policy Committee
- The State Planning Commission in Tamil Nadu was formed on May 25, 1971 by a Muthamil scholar and artist. The State Planning Commission, under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, acts as an advisory body and submits its recommendations to the Government on various development activities in the State.
- The organization operates under the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Commission with members as experts from key areas of development.
- The State Planning Commission was reconstituted as the 'State Development Policy Committee' on 23.4.2020 and has been carrying out various important functions including target setting, monitoring, evaluation and policy advice, policy coordination and implementation of special projects.
- In this context, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has issued an order to revise the State Development Policy Committee of MK Stalin as follows.
- Accordingly, Prof. J. Jayaranjan has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the State Development Policy Committee. Rama.Sinuvasan is a full time member and Prof.M. Vijayabaskar, Prof. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, M. Deenabandhu, IAS (Retired), D.R.P. Raja, Mannargudi Assembly Member, Mallika Srinivasan, Jo. Amalorpavanathan, Siddha doctor K. Sivaraman and Dr. Narthaki Nataraj have also been appointed as part-time members.
- The G-7 includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, which are considered economically developed countries.
- The G-7 summit is scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom on November 11-13. Before that, a meeting of the finance ministers of these countries took place. Representatives of the European Union also participated.
- Multinational technology companies such as Amazon and Google have been accused of tax evasion in many countries. Following this, the issue of uniform taxation at the international level was discussed at the meeting of Finance Ministers.
- Accordingly, in countries where such companies operate, they are required to pay at least 15 per cent trade tax, known as 'corporate tax'.
- Moreover, these companies have to reinvest a portion of their profits in the country in which it operates. This will prevent these companies from accumulating their investment in low tax countries.
- The UN's 'Sustainable Development Goal' was set in 2015 to ensure that people live in peace and poverty-free growth by 2030.
- Accordingly, 17 factors were declared as the target for urgent implementation, such as poverty alleviation and environmental protection.
- In this regard, the report for the year 2020 has now been released. India, which was ranked 115th in the previous year, has slipped two places to 117th.
- Poverty alleviation and food security; Reducing gender discrimination; Lack of improvement in the factors conducive to industrial growth is the main reason for the backwardness of the two places.
