  • தேசிய கடலியல் நிறுவனம் / NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY: தேசியக் கடலியல் நிறுவனம் (National Institute of Oceanography, India) டோனாப் பவுலா, கோவாவில் தலைமையகத்தையும், கொச்சி, விசாகப்பட்டினம், மும்பையில் வட்டார மையங்களையும் கொண்டு செயற்பட்டு வருகிறது. 
  • இது புது தில்லியில் உள்ள அறிவியல் மற்றும் தொழிலக ஆய்வு மன்றத்தின் (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - CSIR) 38 ஆய்வு நிறுவனங்களில் ஒன்று. 
  • 1960 ஆம் ஆண்டு நிகழ்ந்த அனைத்துலக இந்தியப் பெருங்கடல் குறிக்கோள் பயணத்திட்டத்தின் (International Indian Oceana Expedition - IIOE) தொடர்ச்சியாக இந்நிறுவனம் சனவரி 1, 1966 ஆம் ஆண்டு கோவாவில் நிறுவப்பட்டது. இந்நிறுவனம் உலகளவில் கடலியல் ஆய்வில் சிறந்த நிலையை அடைந்துள்ளது.
  • இந்நிறுவனத்தின் ஆய்வின் நோக்கம் வட இந்திய கடல்பகுதி அளிக்கும் சிறப்புகளை கண்காணிப்பதும் புரிந்துக்கொள்வதுமே ஆகும். இவ்வாய்வின் விளைவாக இதுவரை இந்நிறுவனத்திலிருந்து 5000 க்கும் மேற்ப்பட்ட ஆய்வுக்கட்டுரைகள் வெளிவந்துள்ளன. 
  • இந்நிறுவனத்தில் 200 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட ஆராய்ச்சியாளர்கள் மற்றும் தொழில்முறை துணைப்பணியாளர்கள் பணிபுரிந்து வருகின்றனர். இந்நிறுவனத்தின் ஆய்வுகள் நான்கு மெரும்பகுப்புகளாக இருக்கின்றன - உயிரியல், வேதியியல், புவியியல்/புவிஇயற்பியல் மற்றும் இயற்பியல் - மற்றும் சில கடல் கருவியாக்கம் மற்றும் தொல்லியல் சார்ந்து நடைப்பெறுகின்றன.
  • இந்நிறுவனம், ஆய்வுக்காக 23 மீ நீளமுள்ள கடல் ஆய்வுக்கலம் (Coastal Research Vessel - CRV) சாகர் சுக்தி எனும் கப்பலை பலதுறைச் சார்ந்த கண்காணிப்பிற்காகப் பயன்படுத்தி வருகிறது. 
  • இந்நிறுவனத்தில் பணிபுரியும் ஆய்குநர்கள் புவியியல் அமைச்சகத்தின் பெருங்கடல் ஆய்வுக்கலமான சாகர் கன்யாவிலும் செல்ல அனுமதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். இந்நிறுவனத்தின் நூலகத்தில் 15000 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட பனுவல்களும், 20000 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட ஆய்விதழ்களின் படைப்புகளும் நிரப்பப்பட்டுள்ளன.
  • அடிப்படை ஆய்வுகளைத் தவிர்த்து, இந்நிறுவனம் பயனுறு ஆய்வுப்பணிகளையும் தொழில் நிறுவனங்களின் துணையுடன் செயற்படுத்தி வருகின்றது. 
  • இதில் கடலியல் தரவுகள் திரட்டல், சுற்றுச்சூழல் தாக்க அலசல் மற்றும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் தாக்கத்தை வியூகிக்கும் வகையில் மாதிரிகளை உருவாக்குதல். இது கடல் மண்டல ஒருங்கிணைப்பு மற்றும் கடற்சூழல் பாதுகாப்பில் பரிந்துரை மற்றும் விளக்கங்களும் அளிக்கின்றன.

  • National Institute of Oceanography, India operates with headquarters at Donab Paula, Goa and regional centers at Kochi, Visakhapatnam and Mumbai.
  • It is one of the 38 research institutes of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi.
  • The company was established in Goa on January 1, 1966 as a continuation of the International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE) that took place in 1960. The institute has achieved excellence in oceanographic research worldwide.
  • The mission of the Institute is to monitor and understand the unique features of the North Indian Ocean region. As a result of this research, more than 5000 research papers have been published so far from this institution.
  • The institute employs more than 200 researchers and professional assistants. The institute's research falls into four major categories – biology, chemistry, geology/geophysics and physics – and some focus on marine instrumentation and archaeology.
  • The company is using the 23 m long Coastal Research Vessel (CRV) Sagar Sukti for multidisciplinary monitoring.
  • Commissioners working in this institution are also allowed to visit Sagar Kanya, the oceanographic survey of the Ministry of Geography. The institute's library is filled with more than 15000 works and more than 20000 research papers.
  • Apart from basic studies, the company is also carrying out functional studies in collaboration with industrial companies.
  • These include collection of oceanographic data, environmental impact analysis and modeling to predict environmental impact. It also provides recommendations and interpretations on marine regional integration and marine environment protection.
