'Vetri Tamil Nadu' Investors' Meet 2026
- At the 'Vetri Tamil Nadu' Investors' Meet held today (Aug. 13) in Chennai, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, 97 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed on behalf of the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department.
- These agreements entail investments worth ₹67,452 crore and the creation of 1,06,998 jobs. It is noteworthy that industrial investments exceeding ₹1 lakh crore have been attracted within the first 100 days of this government assuming office.
- Furthermore, Tamil Nadu signed seven institutional MoUs with companies and organizations from Kazakhstan, New Zealand, and Russia. These agreements cover areas such as trade, commerce, bilateral investments, sister-city cooperation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, skill development training in the semiconductor sector, and technology transfer.
- Chief Minister Vijay inaugurated completed projects worth a total of ₹777.74 crore. These included the commercial production facility for tissue paper (costing ₹350 crore) at the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) plant in Mondipatti, Trichy district; the 'Aerohub' complex (costing ₹250 crore) at the SIPCOT industrial park in Vallam Vadagal, Kancheepuram district; 11 new buildings for the SIPCOT industrial park (costing ₹122.08 crore); and two new buildings for Tamil Nadu Industrial Housing Private Limited (costing ₹55.66 crore).
- Additionally, he laid the foundation stones for eight projects involving an investment of ₹4,476 crore and the creation of employment for 5,074 people. Subsequently, five projects were inaugurated, entailing an investment of ₹2,676 crore and the creation of 1,550 jobs.
- Data reveals that retail inflation rose to 4.45% in July, driven by an increase in the prices of key food items. Retail inflation, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), stood at 4.38% in June.
- According to data released by the National Statistical Office, food inflation increased to 5.52% in July from 5.32% in the previous month.
- It is noteworthy that the Reserve Bank of India—tasked with maintaining the Consumer Price Index at the 4% level kept short-term lending rates unchanged earlier this month, amidst concerns regarding inflation.
