Tamil Nadu Assembly Passes Resolution Opposing the Mekedatu Dam Project
- The Karnataka government has been attempting to construct a dam at Mekedatu across the Cauvery River. Against this backdrop, Chief Minister Vijay moved a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly today opposing the Mekedatu dam project. All parties, including the DMK, AIADMK, Congress, VCK, and PMK, extended their support to the resolution.
- The resolution was subsequently passed unanimously. Earlier, while speaking on the resolution, Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin had urged that the proposal to constitute a separate tribunal for the Mekedatu issue be included in the resolution.
- Responding to this, Chief Minister Vijay stated that the point raised by the Leader of the Opposition could be incorporated as the fourth paragraph of the government's resolution. Following this, the resolution was passed unanimously.
