SCM Garments Private Limited signs MoU in the presence of the Chief Minister
- In a function held today (Nov. 13) at the Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on behalf of the Department of Industry, Investment Promotion and Commerce, a MoU was signed for the project of setting up a garment manufacturing unit by SCM Garments Private Limited (The Chennai Silks Group) in Tiruvarur district with an investment of Rs. 50 crores to provide employment to 2500 people.
- SCM Garments Private Limited (The Chennai Silks Group), a subsidiary of the SCM Garments Group, a leading company in the textile industry, is a garment manufacturing company with world-renowned companies as its customers.
- The company plans to set up a garment manufacturing unit in Tiruvarur district with an investment of Rs. 50 crores, to provide employment to 2500 people.
- On November 10, a car was moving slowly near the first gate of the Lal Qila Metro station near the Red Fort in Delhi when it suddenly exploded. Other vehicles nearby also caught fire, killing 12 people. 24 are undergoing treatment in hospitals with serious injuries.
- The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is investigating the car blast incident, has formed a 10-member special team and intensified the investigation. In this situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who returned to Delhi from Bhutan, immediately convened a cabinet meeting and held consultations.
- Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others participated in this meeting. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior intelligence officials also attended.
- After this meeting, the Central Government has officially declared the Delhi car blast incident as a terrorist attack. Along with this, some resolutions have been passed.
- Furthermore, a resolution has been passed to strongly condemn the car blast incident carried out by anti-national forces, to express condolences to the innocent people who lost their lives in this attack and to wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
- It has been stated that terrorism in any form can never be accepted and the Cabinet welcomes the support extended by friendly countries of the world to India in the car blast incident. The resolution has been passed praising the work of the security forces, emergency workers and citizens who responded quickly after the car blast.
- The resolution has also been passed to appoint a high-level investigation team to identify the culprits quickly and bring them to justice.
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the Export Promotion Mission (EPM), a flagship initiative announced in the Union Budget 2025-26, to strengthen India’s export competitiveness, focusing on the welfare of MSMEs, first-time exporters and labour-intensive sectors.
- The Mission will create a comprehensive, flexible and digitally enabled framework for export promotion with a total outlay of Rs. 25,060 crore from the financial year 2025-26 to 2030-31.
- The Union Cabinet has approved the revision of royalty rates for cesium, graphite, rubidium and zirconium as follows:
- Cesium: Royalty rate of 2% on the average selling price of cesium metal in the ore produced.
- Graphite with fixed carbon content of 80% or more will be levied as royalty at 2% on the average selling price of the tax levied on ad valorem basis.
- Graphite with fixed carbon content of less than 80% will be levied as royalty at 4% on the average selling price of the tax levied on ad valorem basis.
- Rubidium: Royalty rate of 2% on the average selling price of rubidium metal in the ore produced will be levied as royalty.
- Zirconium: A royalty of 1% of the average selling price of zirconium metal, which may be levied on zirconium metal in the ore produced, will be levied.
- The above decision of the Union Cabinet will encourage auctioning of mineral blocks containing cesium, rubidium and zirconium. The determination of royalty rates for graphite on a value basis will proportionately reflect the change in the price of the mineral across grades.
- Increased domestic production of these minerals will lead to reduction in imports, reduce supply chain disruptions and create employment opportunities in the country. Graphite, cesium, rubidium and zirconium are important minerals for high-tech applications and energy transition.
- The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the introduction of a Credit Guarantee Scheme for Exporters to provide 100% credit guarantee insurance to member lending institutions.
- This will provide additional credit facilities of up to Rs. 20,000 crore to eligible exporters, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
- The highest award of the French Government, the Chevalier Award, was conferred on Thota Dharani. Thota Dharani was felicitated with the Chevalier Award at the French Government Centre in Nungambakkam, Chennai.
- The French government has been awarding the Chevalier award to honor those who have excelled in the arts, literature, and science. Previously, veteran Tamil cinema actors Sivaji and Kamal have received the Chevalier award.
