School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamoshi launched the Akal Vilakku project
- Students studying in classes 9 to 12 should come to school without any problems. They should be protected from physical, mental and social problems.
- The ‘Akal Vilakku’ project will be implemented to ensure safe use of the internet, the School Education Department announced in the 2024-25 grant request.
- To implement this announcement, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamoshi launched the Akal Vilakku project at Keeramangalam Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Pudukkottai district.
- Ministers Raghupathi and Peiyanathan released guidebooks and distributed them to the students.
- Chief Minister Stalin inaugurated the Winfast electric vehicle manufacturing factory in Thoothukudi today. Industries Minister D.R.P. Raja, Ministers Anitha Radhakrishnan, K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Geetha Jeevan, Mano Thangaraj, Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi and others participated in the program.
- In the first phase, a Winfast factory has been set up on 114 acres of land at a cost of Rs. 1,119 crore. The plant is planned to produce 50,000 electric vehicles per year in the first phase.
- Today, Tamil Nadu is experiencing the fastest economic growth in India. Tamil Nadu has been experiencing single-digit economic growth for the last 14 years. Until last year, it was estimated at 9 percent.
- It was during the DMK regime in Tamil Nadu, when Karunanidhi was the Chief Minister, that economic growth previously increased to double digits. However, based on the data released by the Central Government on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu has now reached 11.19 percent in economic growth.
- Following this, per capita income and growth will increase manifold. We can know from the data of the Central Government that the success achieved for the development of the entire state, not for the development of a specific area in the state. Through this, rapid economic growth has been paved.
- The Tamil Nadu government has been continuously opposing the National Education Policy of the Central Government. It announced that a special education policy will be formulated for the state as an alternative.
- A 14-member committee headed by retired judge T. Murugesan was formed in 2022 to formulate this education policy.
- This committee formulated the education policy after consulting various parties including university vice-chancellors, educationists, teachers, private school administrators, and parents.
- Accordingly, a draft report for the State Education Policy consisting of about 650 pages was prepared in October 2023. However, the release of the draft report was delayed due to flood damage and Lok Sabha elections.
- Thereafter, a team led by retired Justice Murugesan submitted the State Education Policy Report to the Tamil Nadu government on July 1, 2024.
- In this situation, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released the first phase of the State Education Policy Report for the School Education Department at the Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, Chennai today (Aug. 8).
- In the report, there should be no public examination for classes 3, 5 and 8, the bilingual policy of Tamil and English should be followed, education should be brought to the state list, and NEET should not be conducted.
- The State Education Policy Report also stated that compulsory passing will continue up to class 8 and the class 11 public examination will be canceled.
- Prime Minister Modi inaugurates 3 Vande Bharat trains on 3 routes - Bengaluru - Belagavi, Amritsar - Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Nagpur (Ajni) - Pune - at a function held at Bengaluru KSR Railway Station on Sunday.
- This is the 150th Vande Bharat train to be flagged off by the Prime Minister. Later, the Prime Minister travelled from Ragikutta to Electronic City in the metro train.
- Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the driverless metro train service on the Yellow Line in Bengaluru for public use.
- Metro services in Bengaluru are provided on Purple and Green lines. Meanwhile, the third metro train service on the Yellow Line was planned and work was underway for it.
- The Prime Minister inaugurated the driverless metro train service on this yellow line from RV Salai railway station to Bommachandra railway station. With the metro trains connecting the Electronic City area, it is expected that traffic congestion in Bengaluru will be significantly reduced.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated the newly constructed Kartavya Bhavan building in New Delhi to the nation. With this, ministries will shift from 60 to 70-year-old buildings to new buildings.
- These ministry offices have been developed in buildings with ground floors and six floors on both sides, covering an area of 1.5 lakh square meters.
- These buildings will house the Union Home Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, Rural Development Ministry, Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, among others.
- The Reserve Bank of India's bi-monthly monetary policy committee meeting will be held on the issue of bank interest rates. In this context, the Reserve Bank of India has kept the latest rate cuts at 5.50 percent unchanged amid rising global trade uncertainties.
- The six-member committee unanimously decided to keep the interest rate unchanged and continue with a neutral stance. This will keep the monthly installments of home and auto loans unchanged.
- While global trade challenges persist, the prospects for the Indian economy remain bright. At the same time, inflation is much lower than expected, which is largely due to volatile food prices, said RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
- Indian athlete Annu Rani won gold in javelin throw at the 8th Wieslaw Maniak Memorial held in Poland. She won gold in her second attempt at the Wieslaw Maniak Memorial series by throwing the javelin with a distance of 62.59 meters. The 32-year-old Annu Rani holds the national record for the longest javelin throw in India.
- The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the expenditure of Rs 4,250 crore for four new components under the Central Special Development Programme for the states of Assam and Tripura.
- The total expenditure of the proposed four new components will be Rs 7,250 crore. Of this, the Union Government will provide Rs 4,000 crore for the Central Sector Scheme of the Special Development Packages for Assam and Rs 250 crore for Tripura.
- The remaining amount of Rs 3,000 crore will be provided by the State Government of Assam from its own resources. As per the settlement agreement signed by the Union Government and the State Governments of Assam and Tripura with the tribal communities of the respective states, out of the Rs. 4,250 crore, Rs. 4,000 crore has been allocated to the three components of Assam for five years from the financial year 205-26 to 2029-30 and Rs. 250 crore to one component of Tripura for four years from the financial year 2025-26 to 2028-29.
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the proposal to implement the ‘Multidisciplinary Education and Research Development Scheme in Technical Education’ in 275 technical institutions, comprising 175 engineering institutes and 100 polytechnic colleges.
- The objective of the scheme is to improve quality, equity and governance in technical education covering all States/UTs by implementing interventions aligned with the National Education Policy 2020.
- It is a ‘Central Sector Scheme’ with a total financial outlay of Rs. 4200 crore for the period 2025-26 to 2029-30. Out of the Rs. 4200 crore, Rs. 2100 crore will be external assistance as loan from the World Bank.
- Around 275 Government/Government Aided Technical Institutions are expected to be selected and supported under the scheme. This includes selected National Institutes of Technology, State Engineering Institutes, Polytechnic Colleges, Affiliation Technical Universities.
- Apart from this, State/UT Departments dealing with the sector of technical education will also be supported through this scheme. Moreover, around 7.5 lakh students will benefit from this scheme.
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved a compensation of Rs 30,000 crore to PSUs for losses incurred by them in domestic LPG cylinder supply.
- The compensation amount will be distributed to the 3 PSUs by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The compensation amount will be paid in 12 installments.
- The three PSUs, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, supply LPG cylinders to consumers at regulated prices.
- This decision was taken in view of the increase in international LPG prices in 2024-25 and the continued increase in LPG prices. The central government is taking such steps so that consumers are not affected by the fluctuations in international cooking gas prices.
- The Union Cabinet has approved continuation of subsidy amount of Rs. 300 per cooking gas cylinder. Accordingly, the beneficiaries of the Prime Minister's Ujjwala Yojana will continue to receive subsidy of Rs. 300 per cylinder.
- This subsidy will also be provided for 14.2 kg cylinders (up to 9 cylinders per year) used for domestic use. This subsidy will be provided on a pro-rata basis for cylinders weighing 5 kg.
- This subsidy amount for the financial year 2025-26 is estimated to cost the government Rs. 12,000 crore.
- Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana are provided with a free package including cooking gas connection, regulator, safe gas tube, consumer gas card and installation manual without any deposit for the cylinder.
- Under this scheme, 10.33 crore beneficiaries have received cooking gas cylinder connections across the country till now (01.07.2025).
- The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a four-lane road between Marakkanam - Puducherry in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 2,157 crore.
- At present, there is a two-lane National Highway between Chennai, Puducherry, Villupuram and Nagapattinam. Considering the increasing traffic congestion, State Highways have also been constructed parallel to the National Highways.
- There is a need to expand the road infrastructure for transportation in major cities and densely populated areas. Considering this, National Highway No. 332A between Marakkanam - Puducherry is to be upgraded to a four-lane highway.
- This project is to be integrated with two major National Highways and two State Highways, providing seamless connectivity for economic, social and freight transport throughout Tamil Nadu.
- Furthermore, this highway is to be upgraded as a multi-modal transport route by integrating two railway stations in Puducherry and Chinnababu Samudra, two airports in Chennai - Puducherry and a small port in Cuddalore.
