Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh appointed as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force
- Indian Air Force Chief Vivek Ram Chaudhary is set to retire on the 30th. Subsequently, Air Marshal Amar Preeth Singh, who is the Deputy Commander of the Air Force, has been appointed as the next Commander.
- According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, he will be promoted as Air Chief Marshal and will take charge on the 30th.
- As the Sri Lankan presidential election was held yesterday (21st), the counting of votes started from last night. Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the National People's Shakti was in the presence from the beginning when the curfew was issued and the votes were counted.
- He got more than 50 percent of the votes in the beginning, but later suffered a decline and got only 39.65% of the votes. Second place Sajith Premadasa got 34.09% votes and third place Ranil Wickramasinghe got 17.47% votes.
- While Arianethran, the general candidate of the Sri Lankan Tamils, got the 4th place, former President Rajapakse's son Namal Rajapakse was pushed to the 5th place without getting even 3 percent of the votes.
- No candidate exceeded 50% of the vote in these results. Thus the 2nd optional vote count was held. People choose their first, second and third choice candidates while voting. If none of the candidates get 50 percent of the votes, then the votes for the second most preferred candidate will be counted.
- This is the first time in the history of Sri Lankan presidential elections that second preference votes have been counted. Election Commission Chairman Ratnanayake announced that all the candidates except Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Sajith Premadasa who were in the top 2 positions have been eliminated from the contest as per the procedure of counting the second preference votes.
- Accordingly, the 2nd optional vote count was held. With this, Anura Kumara Dissanayake has won the 2nd preference vote by a margin of 9 lakh votes. Following this, he has been officially announced as the President of Sri Lanka.
