Tamil Nadu government decree declaring 5 protected forests as sanctuaries
- The protected forests of Vadaparkur, South Parkur, Thamaraikarai, Ennamangalam, Nagalur in Andhiur circle of Erode district are important areas for ecology, flora and fauna habitat. The area should be managed as a wildlife sanctuary to protect and enhance the habitat of these wildlife and mitigate human-wildlife conflicts.
- 70 species of butterflies, 35 species of fish, 10 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, 233 species of birds and 48 species of mammals live in those areas. There are many valuable sandalwood trees.
- Therefore, considering the protected forests in Andhiyur circle as ecologically and naturally important areas, for the purpose of protecting the forest species and its environment, Vadaparkur, South Parkur, Thamaraikarai, Nannamangalam, Nagalur protected forest areas (excluding roads, tracks, residential areas) on 30th January last.
