INSAT - 3DS satellite launched
  • Insat satellites are launched by ISRO to monitor weather variations and provide information. In such a way, ISRO has designed a state-of-the-art satellite called INSAT-3DS. It was launched by a GSLV F-14 rocket from the Satish Dhawan launch pad in Sriharikota on February 17 at 5.30 pm.
  • ISRO scientists applauded as the rocket successfully launched with the satellite. The component carrying the Insat satellite successfully separated by itself. ISRO scientists have said that the work to stabilize the satellite has started.
  • The rocket reached the target as planned. INSAT 3DS has been successfully launched. ISRO chief Somnath said that the operation of the satellite is satisfactory. The INSAT-3DS satellite, weighing a total of 2,275 kg, is equipped with 25 different observation instruments including 6 imaging channels. 
  • These will accurately track the Earth's climatic variations and provide real-time weather information. Through this, natural calamities such as storms and heavy rains can be known in advance and necessary precautions can be taken.
Signing of agreement with NTPC for NALCO power supply
  • NTPC has signed an MoU with National Aluminum Company Limited (Nalco) to provide around 1,200 MW or more of uninterrupted power round the clock to expand the capacity of Nalco's smelter at Angul, Odisha.
  • The MoU was signed in the presence of Dilip Kumar Patel, HR Director, NTPC and Jagdish Arora, Director (Program & Technology), NALCO.
