The President inaugurated the tribal festival known as Adi Mahotsavam

• President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu inaugurated the tribal festival Adi Mahotsav 2024 today (February 10, 2024) at Major Tian Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.
• Aadi Mahotsavam is organized by TRIFED, the Tribal Marketing Federation under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, with the aim of showcasing the rich diversity of India's tribal heritage. This year the festival will be held from 10th to 18th February.

Passage of 3 bills related to Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament

• 3 bills related to Jammu and Kashmir were passed in Rajya Sabha on Friday. While those bills have already been passed in the Lok Sabha, now those bills have been passed in both houses of the Parliament.
• 3 bills namely Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill 2024, Jammu and Kashmir Local Government Bodies Amendment Bill 2024 and Constitution (Scheduling) Order (Amendment) Bill 2024 were passed in the Lok Sabha recently.
• The bills were subsequently tabled in the Rajya Sabha. In this, the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill has led to the inclusion of Katta Brahmins and Koli communities in the list of tribes.
• The Jammu and Kashmir Local Government Bodies Amendment Bill has made way for reservation for Other Backward Classes in Panchayats and Municipalities in Jammu and Kashmir.
• The Constitution (Scheduling) Order (Amendment) Bill has led to the inclusion of Sura, Valmiki, Banki and Meda communities as Valmiki communities in the Scheduled List.
• The debate on these bills was held in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Following this, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda answered the arguments. The bills were subsequently passed by voice vote.

10 years in jail for malpractice in competitive tenders - Bill passed in Rajya Sabha

• The Rajya Sabha passed a bill on Friday to impose a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 crore for those involved in irregularities in competitive tenders for government jobs.
• The amendments proposed by the opposition members were rejected and passed in the Rajya Sabha by voice vote.
• The bill also recommends setting up of a national level advisory committee to make recommendations on how to conduct online transactions more securely.
• The bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and has now been passed in the Rajya Sabha. It is to be noted that the bill becomes a law after the assent of the President.
