Bhajanlal Sharma sworn in as Chief Minister of Rajasthan
  • Elections were held for 199 constituencies of the total 200 constituencies in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly after the death of a Congress candidate. In this, BJP won 115 constituencies.
  • The ruling Congress won only 69 seats. After the BJP won with an absolute majority, Bhajanlal Sharma was elected as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bhairava were selected as Deputy Chief Ministers. Former Minister Vasudev Devnani was announced as Speaker.
  • Bhajanlal Sharma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan today (Dec 15), his 56th birthday. A first-time BJP MLA, he has the support of the RSS. MLAs Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bhairava took charge as Deputy Chief Ministers.
  • Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers and Ministers. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Natta, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states and leaders of the National Democratic Alliance.
India's growth in current fiscal year 6.7% - Asian Development Bank forecast
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has predicted that India's gross domestic product (GDP) will grow at 6.7 percent in the current financial year 2023-2024.
  • In the report released last September, the bank had said that the growth would be 6.3 percent.
  • In a report released by the Asian Development Bank on Wednesday, GDP growth in the second quarter of the current fiscal was higher than expected at 7.6 percent. 
  • Thus, the growth in the first half of the financial year from April to September is 7.7 percent. Industries including manufacturing, mining and construction have seen double-digit growth.
  • This year, the growth of the agriculture sector will be lower than expected. But the growth in industry will offset the decline in the agricultural sector.
  • GDP growth for the next financial year 2024-2025 will remain unchanged at 6.7 percent. Adjusted for inflation, it will be 5.5 percent.
Ministry of Defense signs Rs 5,336.25 crore deal with Bell for 10-year supply of electronic fuses for Indian Army
  • The Ministry of Defence, on December 15, 2023, signed a major contract with Pune-based Bharat Electronics (Bell) for procurement of electronic fuses at a total cost of Rs 5,336.25 crore for 10 years. 
  • As part of the vision of 'Self-Reliance India', this agreement has been signed for procurement of ammunition under 'Manufacture of Ammunition for Indian Army by Indian Industry' as a government initiative for 10-year long-term requirement.
  • The objective of the scheme is to build ammunition stockpiles to reduce import dependency, achieve self-sufficiency in ammunition production, acquire critical technologies and secure supplies affected by supply chain disruptions.
