12 percent growth in key infrastructure sectors
  • The overall production of major infrastructure sectors registered a growth of 12.1 percent in October last year due to the excellent performance of coal, steel, cement and power sectors.
  • The production of eight major infrastructure sectors namely coal, crude oil, natural gas, refined products, fertilizer, steel, cement and electricity, which account for 40.27 percent of the industrial production index IIP, recorded a growth of 12.1 percent in October last year.
  • In that month, the production of 4 sectors namely coal, steel, cement and electricity saw a double digit growth. This contributed significantly to overall productivity growth in key infrastructure sectors.
  • The country's core infrastructure sector grew by 9.2 percent in the previous month of September.
  • The production growth of these eight sectors is 8.6 percent during the period from April to October of the current financial year. It was 8.4 per cent in the same period of the previous financial year 2022-23.
  • Coal production grew by 18.4 percent during the assessment month. It was 3.8 percent in October 2022. Steel production growth was reported at 11 percent this October, which was 5.8 percent in October 2022.
  • Last October, cement production has grown by 17.1 percent. It was down 4.2 percent in the same month of 2022 before that. Last year's electricity production increased by 20.3 percent in October, which grew by 1.2 percent in October last year.
  • Similarly, crude oil and natural gas production, which saw a decline of 2.2 percent and 4.2 percent respectively in October 2022, grew by 1.3 percent and 9.9 percent respectively last October. Refinery products production registered a negative growth of 3.1 percent in October 2022. It has turned into a positive growth of 4.2 percent this October.
  • Fertilizer production growth declined to 5.3 per cent from 5.4 per cent in the assessment month, according to government figures.
Union Home Ministry approves Rs 338.24 crore financial assistance for Cyclone Bibarjoy-hit Gujarat
  • The central government has approved a financial assistance of Rs 338.24 crore to Gujarat, which was badly hit by Cyclone Bibarjoi. Prime Minister Mr. As directed by Narendra Modi, the Home Ministry has approved an additional financial assistance of Rs 633.73 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to Himachal Pradesh. The state was hit hard by floods, heavy rains and landslides during the southwest monsoon this year.

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit at the Bharat Hall in New Delhi. The Prime Minister also attended the Global Artificial Intelligence Expo. 
  • GPAI is a multi-stakeholder initiative of 29 member countries. It aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice in artificial intelligence by supporting cutting-edge research and applied activities in artificial intelligence-related priorities. India is the leading GPAI in 2024.
