Prime Minister Modi awarded appointment letters to more than 51,000 people at the National Employment Festival
  • Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi today addressed the National Employment Festival through video conferencing and handed over appointment letters to over 51,000 new recruits in various government departments and institutions. 
  • Candidates from all over the country will join the government service in various ministries/departments including Ministry of Railways, Department of Posts, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Revenue, Department of Higher Education, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. During the Prime Minister's speech, 37 places across the country were linked with the ceremony.
  • Lakhs of youth have been given appointment letters for government jobs at various employment fairs in the central government and NDA-ruled states and union territories.
Ceasefire in Gaza - Adoption of Resolution at UN
  • A resolution brought by the League of Arab States urging the implementation of a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza has been passed in the United Nations.
  • In the 193-member body, 120 countries voted in favor of the resolution and 14 against. 45 countries did not participate in the referendum, including Canada, England, Italy, India, Germany and Ukraine.
  • The resolution calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire to be implemented and to ensure the continued uninterrupted supply of essential goods and services within the Gaza Strip. Further, the resolution also stated that all people who are in captivity seeking protection and treatment should be immediately and unconditionally released.
  • The death toll between Israel and Hamas since the start of this month's conflict has reached close to 10,000. The Gaza Ministry of Health said on Friday that 7,326 people have been killed so far in Israel's 20-day barrage.
  • Also, 110 people who protested against Israel in the West Bank and clashed with Israeli soldiers were shot dead.

  • The birth anniversary of Pasumbon Muthuramalingath Devar, a freedom fighter with various distinctions, is celebrated as Devar Jayanti by the Government of Tamil Nadu on October 30th every year as a government festival. 
  • In this event, a large number of public and important dignitaries from various parts of Tamil Nadu are participating and paying their respects at his memorial located in Pasumpon, Ramanathapuram district. In a small space in front of the memorial, a huge crowd gathers in a short space of time and the public has to wait in the open for a long time.
  • To protect them from the sun and rain and prevent crowding, a temporary shed/pandal and barricade is erected in front of the memorial every year during the festival by the Tamil Nadu government. 
  • During the Devar Jayanti festival, the public has long been requesting the government to construct a permanent mandapam to protect it from the sun and rain in order to avoid crowding.
  • In response to the long-standing demand of the public, a hall at the cost of 1 crore 42 lakh 80 thousand rupees was constructed in front of the Muthuramalingadevar memorial located in Pasumpon village, Ramanathapuram district, and another hall at a cost of 12 lakh 54 thousand rupees was constructed on the road where the most important dignitaries paid their respects, making a total of 1 crore. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has ordered the construction of two halls by the Tamil Nadu government at an estimated cost of 55 lakh 34 thousand rupees.
