• LIST OF PERSONAL LOAN COUNTRIES 2023: According to United Nations statistics for 2022, Singapore ranks first in terms of personal debt. According to a study conducted by Russia's RIA Novosti news agency, the debt share of each Singaporean individual is $117,400.
• The US comes in second after Singapore. Here the personal loan share is $93,000. In June, the nation's debt surpassed $32 trillion for the first time. President Joe Biden's administration and Republicans were working on a deal to raise the debt ceiling in late May. Since then the personal debt burden has also increased.
• Next to the US is Japan with $88,400. Canada is fourth with $58,900 and Belgium is fifth with $52,600. Rounding out the top 10 are Iceland ($51,200), Italy ($49,200), France ($47,100), Ireland ($47,100), and Britain ($46,600).
• Rounding out the top 30 are Norway ($42,100), Australia ($36,500), Switzerland ($36,200) and the EU's economic powerhouse Germany at $32,600. Most of the countries in the top thirty are developed countries.
• Russia was 94th last year. It currently has a personal loan of $2,980. At the same time, according to the Russian Ministry of Finance, the Federal State Statistics Service, Russia's personal debt is about $2,200.
• China's per capita debt is the highest among developing economies in the BRICS group of Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa. China's personal debt has risen to $9,900 and ranks 47th in the world. Brazil ranks 57th with $7,700. South Africa was ranked 75th with a personal debt of $4,700 and India was ranked 112th with $2,000.
