• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் 2023 / INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் ஜூன் 23 ஆம் தேதி உலக விதவைகள் தினமாக உலகம் முழுவதும் உள்ள நாடுகளில் அனுசரிக்கப்படுகிறது. விதவைகள் எதிர்கொள்ளும் பிரச்சினை குறித்து விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த தி லூம்பா அறக்கட்டளையால் முதலில் இந்த நாள் நிறுவப்பட்டது. 
• இது பின்னர் ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்பட்டது மற்றும் "பல நாடுகளில் மில்லியன் கணக்கான விதவைகள் மற்றும் அவர்களைச் சார்ந்தவர்கள் எதிர்கொள்ளும் வறுமை மற்றும் அநீதிக்கு" தீர்வு காண ஒரு நடவடிக்கை நாளாக அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டது.

சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினத்தின் வரலாறு

• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் 2023 / INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: லூம்பா அறக்கட்டளையின் நிறுவனர் லார்டு லூம்பா மற்றும் அறக்கட்டளையின் தலைவரான செரி பிளேயர் ஆகியோரால் சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் 2005 இல் நிறுவப்பட்டது. 
• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினக் கொண்டாட்டம் உலகின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளுக்கு விரைவாக பரவியது மற்றும் 2010 ஆம் ஆண்டளவில் பல முக்கிய நாடுகள் ஏற்கனவே தினத்தை கடைபிடித்தன.
• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினத்தை அங்கீகரிப்பதற்காக காபோனின் ஜனாதிபதி அலி போங்கோ ஒண்டிம்பாவால் ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் பொதுச் சபையில் ஒரு முன்மொழிவு நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டது. 
• இறுதியாக 21 டிசம்பர் 2010 அன்று, ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் பொதுச் சபை A/RES/65/189 என்ற தீர்மானத்தை முறையாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு ஜூன் 23 ஐ சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினமாக நிறுவியது. 
• "உறுப்பினர் நாடுகள், ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் அமைப்பு மற்றும் பிற சர்வதேச மற்றும் பிராந்திய அமைப்புகள் விதவைகள் மற்றும் அவர்களின் குழந்தைகளின் நிலைமைக்கு சிறப்பு கவனம் செலுத்த வேண்டும்" என்று தீர்மானம் அழைப்பு விடுத்தது.

லூம்பா அறக்கட்டளை

• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் 2023 / INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: லூம்பா அறக்கட்டளை என்பது ஒரு இலாப நோக்கற்ற, ஐ.நா-அங்கீகாரம் பெற்ற, இனம், பாலினம் அல்லது மதம் ஆகியவற்றைப் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் விதவைகள் மற்றும் அவர்களது குழந்தைகளுக்கு உதவுவதற்காக நிறுவப்பட்ட சர்வதேச தன்னார்வ தொண்டு நிறுவனம் ஆகும். 
• 37 வயதில் கணவனை இழந்த விதவை ஸ்ரீமதி புஷ்பா வாடி லூம்பாவின் மகனான ராஜ் லூம்பாவால் இந்த அமைப்பு நிறுவப்பட்டது. ஸ்ரீமதி லூம்பா 1992 இல் இறந்தார், அவர் இறந்து ஐந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு, லார்ட் லூம்பா 1997 இல் அறக்கட்டளையை நிறுவினார்.

• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் 2023 / INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினத்தையொட்டி, உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள அரசாங்கங்கள் விதவைகளின் உரிமைகளை உறுதி செய்வதற்கான அவர்களின் உறுதிப்பாட்டை நிலைநிறுத்த நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வலியுறுத்தப்படுகிறது.

• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் 2023 / INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் தீர்மானிக்கப்படும் கருப்பொருளின் படி கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. 
• சர்வதேச விதவைகள் தினம் 2023க்கான தீம் "கண்ணுக்கு தெரியாத பெண்கள், கண்ணுக்கு தெரியாத பிரச்சனைகள்" என்பதாகும். விதவைகள் பெரும்பாலும் கவனிக்கப்படுவதில்லை மற்றும் அவர்களின் பிரச்சனைகள் கவனிக்கப்படுவதில்லை என்ற உண்மையை இந்த தீம் எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறது.

• INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: Every year June 23 is observed as International Widows Day by countries all over the globe. The day was initially established by The Loomba Foundation to raise awareness of the issue faced by widows. 
• It was later adopted by the United Nations and observed as a day of action to address the “poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents in many countries”.

Significance of International Widows Day

• INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: The loss of a partner is already devastating enough for a woman which is further magnified by the loss of their basic human rights. Although there are over 250 million widows all around the world, they are often left unseen, unsupported, and unmeasured in our societies. 
• The need to take an action for identifying full rights and recognition for widows is now more than ever. The rights of a widow include pensions and social protection that are not based on marital status alone, education and training opportunities, information on access to a fair share of their inheritance, land and productive resources, and decent work and equal pay.
• To highlight the urgent need for recognition of widow’s human rights, International Widows Day is observed every year on June 23. In addition to this, the day is also about empowering widows to support themselves and their families and addresses the social stigmas that create exclusion, and discriminatory or harmful practices against the widows.

History of International Widows Day

• INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: International Widows Day was established by the founder of The Loomba Foundation, Lord Loomba, and the foundation’s president, Cherie Blair in 2005. 
• June 23 was chosen as the day of observation as it was on that day in 1954 that the mother of the foundation’s founder, Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, became a widow. The celebration of International Widow’s Day spread quickly to different parts of the world and by 2010 many major countries were already observing the day.
• A proposal was passed in the United Nations General Assembly by President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon to recognize International Widows’ Day. Finally on 21 December 2010, the United Nations General Assembly formally adopted resolution A/RES/65/189 and established 23 June as International Widows Day. 
• The resolution called upon “Member States, the United Nations system, and other international and regional organizations to give special attention to the situation of widows and their children.”

The Loomba Foundation

• INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: The Loomba Foundation is a non-profit, UN-accredited, international NGO founded to help widows and their children regardless of race, gender, or religion. 
• The organization was established by Raj Loomba, the son of widow Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba who lost her husband at the age of 37 years and raised her seven children on her own. Shrimati Loomba died in 1992 and five years after her death, Lord Loomba established the foundation in 1997.

Celebration of International Widows Day

• INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: On the occasion of International Widows day, governments all over the world are urged to take action to uphold their commitments to ensure the rights of widows. 
• Different programs and policies to end violence against widows and their children, poverty alleviation, education, and other support to widows of all ages are launched on this day. 
• The best way through which an individual can celebrate International Widows Day is by spreading awareness about the injustice and struggles faced by widows across the world. One can also make donations to charities or sponsor a widow financially and emotionally.

International Widows Day Theme 2023

• INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY 2023: The celebration of International Widows’ Day is carried out according to a theme decided every year. 
• The theme for International Widows' Day 2023 is "Invisible Women, Invisible Problems". This theme highlights the fact that widows are often overlooked and their problems are not addressed. The day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges faced by widows and to call for action to address them
