• தேசிய சுற்றுலா தினம் 2024 / NATIONAL TOURISM DAY 2024: இந்தியா ஜனவரி 25 அன்று தேசிய சுற்றுலா தினத்தை கொண்டாடுகிறது. நாட்டில் சுற்றுலாத் துறை வகிக்கும் முக்கியத்துவத்தைப் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்துவதற்காக ஆண்டுதோறும் இந்த நாள் குறிக்கப்படுகிறது. 
• சுற்றுலாத் துறையில் பணிபுரியும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கானோரின் பங்களிப்பை அங்கீகரிக்கும் ஒரு வழியாகவும் இந்த நாள் உள்ளது.

The day is also a way to recognise the contributions of the thousands working in the tourism industry.
• While many countries around the world have been celebrating World Tourism Day on September 27 since the 1980s, National Tourism Day is marked on separate dates. While World Tourism Day was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, countries have their own National Tourism Day. In India, it is observed on January 25.
• In 2022, the National Tourism Day was part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the 75-week grand celebration marking 75 years of Indian Independence. This year too, National Tourism Day will be part of the celebrations.

History of National Tourism Day in India

• NATIONAL TOURISM DAY 2024: While World Tourism Day is celebrated on the 27th of September, in India, National Tourism Day is celebrated on the 25th of January. It was declared in the year 1948, a year after India attained independence. 
• It was established with the aim of elevating the importance of tourism and fostering a heightened understanding of its crucial role in the country’s economy. The celebration of Indian Tourism is marked with enthusiasm across the nation.

Significance 

• NATIONAL TOURISM DAY 2024: Before COVID-19, the tourism industry in India saw rapid growth and employed millions. The industry was valued at around $75 billion in FY20, despite the last quarter being marred by the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
• During the same time period, the tourism industry employed a total of 39 million individuals or over 8 percent of the total Indian workforce.
