• இந்தியாவின் 7500 கிலோ மீட்டர்  நீண்ட கடற்கரையானது, அதிகமான கடல் வளங்களுடையது. ஒரு நாட்டின் பெயரால் அமைந்துள்ள பெருங்கடல் என்பது இந்தியப் பெருங்கடல் மட்டுமே.
• கடலின் சுற்றுச்சூழலில் மிக அதிக அளவில்  பிளாஸ்டிக்குகள் பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தி வருகின்றன.  இது ஒரு சர்வதேச பிரச்சனையாக உருவெடுத்துள்ளது. 
• பிளாஸ்டிக்குகளின் பாதிப்பு குறித்து பல்வேறு ஆய்வுகள் நடத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. அத்தனை ஆய்வுகளிலும், கடல் சூழலை  பிளாஸ்டிக்குகள்  பாதிக்கின்றன என்று கண்டறிந்துள்ளனர். 
• கடலில் வாழும் மீன்கள் பாதிப்படைகின்றன, அதன் மூலம் மனிதர்களுக்கும் பாதிப்பு ஏற்படுகிறது. மேலும், இது பொருளாதாரத்திலும் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்துகிறது.  
• கடற்கரை ஒட்டிய பகுதிகளில் சேர்ந்துள்ள குப்பைகள் அதிக அளவில் கடலில் சென்று சேர்வதால், கடல் சூழலியல் அதிக அளவில் பாதிக்கப்படுகிறது.
• ஐக்கிய நாடுகளின் சுத்தமான கடற்கரை ஒப்பந்தத்தில் இந்தியா கையெழுத்திட் டுள்ளது. இதனையடுத்து கடல் தூய்மை பிரச்சாரத்தில் தீவிரமாக ஈடுபட்டுள்ளது.  
• தூய்மை இந்தியா திட்டத்தின் படி பல பணிகள் ஏற்கனவே நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன.  இம்மாதிரியான நடவடிக்கைகள் மூலம் கடலிலும், கடற்கரையொட்டி உள்ள பகுதிகளிலும் மாசுபாடு ஏற்படாமல் நாம் தடுக்க முடியும். 
• நிலைத்த வளர்ச்சி  இலக்கு 14 ஒரு முக்கிய அம்சமாகும். இதில் 14.1 இன் படி வரும் 2025 ஆம் ஆண்டுக்குள் கடலை பாதிக்கும் விதத்திலான அனைத்து நடவடிக்கைகளையும் குறைப்பது,  மேலும் நிலப் பகுதியில் நடைபெறும் சுற்றுச்சூழல் மாசுபாடுகளை குறைத்து, கடலில் குப்பைகள் சேரா வண்ணம் பாதுகாப்பது அவசியம்.  
• பிளாஸ்டிக் கழிவுகள் ஏற்படுத்தும் தாக்கத்தை குறைக்கும் வகையில், ஒரு முறை பயன்படுத்தப்படும் பிளாஸ்டிக்குகளுக்கு இந்த ஆண்டு ஜூலை 1 ஆம் தேதி முதல்  தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
• சர்வதேச அளவில் கடற்கரையை சுத்தப்படுத்தும் தினம், செப்டம்பர் மாதம் மூன்றாம் சனிக்கிழமையன்று உலகம் முழுவதும் கடைப்பிடிக்கப்படுகிறது.  
• இந்த ஆண்டு செப்டம்பர் 17ஆம் தேதி இந்திய அரசின் பல்வேறு நிறுவனங்கள், தன்னார்வத் தொண்டு நிறுவனங்கள், உள்ளூர் அமைப்புகள் ஆகியவற்றுடன் இணைந்து கடற்கரைப் பகுதிகளில் சுத்தப்படுத்தும் முயற்சியில் இறங்கியுள்ளன. 
• "தூய்மையான கடல் பாதுகாப்பான கடல்" என்ற முழக்கத்துடன் இந்தியாவின் அனைத்து கடற்கரைகளையும் சுத்தப்படுத்துவது என்ற இலக்குடன் பல நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன. 
• இந்த நடவடிக்கைகளின் போது,  எப்படி கடலில் குப்பைகள் சேருகின்றன என்ற அறிவியல் பூர்வமான தரவுகள் தொகுக்கப்படும்.  இந்தக் குப்பை கழிவுகளால் எப்படி கடல் நீர் பாதிப்படைகிறது என்பதுடன் அதில் வாழக்கூடிய நுண்ணுயிரிகள் குறித்தும் தூய்மையான கடற்கரை பகுதி குறித்தும் ஆய்வு செய்யப்படும்.
• இந்தப் பிரச்சாரத்தில் மத்திய அரசின் புவியியல் துறை, சுற்றுச்சூழல் மற்றும் வன பாதுகாப்பு காலநிலை மாற்றம் அமைச்சகம், நாட்டு நலப் பணித்திட்டம், இந்திய கடலோர காவல் படை, தேசிய பேரிடர் மேலாண்மை ஆணையம்  உள்ளிட்ட அமைப்புகள், மத்திய, மாநில அரசுகளின் பல்வேறு துறைகள், சமூக அமைப்புகள் மற்றும் கல்வி நிறுவனங்கள் இணைந்து நடத்துகின்றன
• இந்த ஆண்டு நம் நாடு விடுதலை அடைந்து 75 ஆம் ஆண்டு சுதந்திர தினத்தை கொண்டாடும் இந்த நேரத்தில், 75 கடற்கரையோரங்களில்   ஒரு கிலோ மீட்டர் தூரத்திற்கு 75 தன்னார்வலர்களைக் கொண்ட குழு அமைக்கப்பட்டு சுத்தம் செய்யப்பட்டு வருகிறது.  இதற்காக 75 கடற்கரைகள் நாடு முழுவதும் கண்டறியப்பட்டுள்ளன.
• தூய்மையான கடல் பாதுகாப்பான கடல் என்ற நோக்குடன் மக்கள் பிரச்சாரம்  75 நாட்கள் நீடிக்கும்.  இதன் மூலம் இந்தியாவில் கடலும்,  கடற்கரையும் தூய்மையானதாக மாறும்.  இதற்கான பிரச்சாரம் ஜூலை 3 ஆம் தேதி தொடங்கப்பட்டு நடைபெற்று வருகிறது.
• பொதுமக்களிடம் இந்த பிரச்சாரம் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும்.  கடற்கரை தூய்மைப்படுத்தும் பிரச்சார இயக்கமானது, நேரடியாகவும் காணொலி வாயிலாகவும் நடத்தப்படும். 
• சுற்றுச்சூழலின் நிலைத்தன்மையை பாதுகாக்கும் இடத்தில் நம்முடைய வாழ்க்கை முறையையும் பழக்க வழக்கங்களையும் மாற்றிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்ற உணர்வு இதன் மூலம் ஏற்படுத்தப்படும். இந்த பிரச்சாரத்திற்காக "ஈக்கோ மித்ரம்" என்ற செயலி உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
• இந்த செயலி மூலம் பொதுமக்கள் , வரும் செப்டம்பர் 17ஆம் தேதி நடைபெறும் கடற்கரையோர தூய்மைப் படுத்தும் நிகழ்வில் தன்னார்வமாக பணியாற்ற பதிவு செய்து கொள்ளலாம்.

• India's 7500 km long coastline is rich in marine resources. The only ocean named after a country is the Indian Ocean. Plastics are having a huge impact on the marine environment. It has become an international problem.
• Various studies have been conducted on the effects of plastics. All studies have found that plastics are affecting the marine environment. Fish living in the sea are affected and thereby humans are also affected. Also, it has an impact on the economy.
• Due to the large amount of garbage accumulated in the coastal areas and entering the sea, the marine ecology is affected to a great extent. India is a signatory to the United Nations Clean Coast Convention. After this, he is actively involved in the ocean cleanliness campaign.
• A lot of work is already underway under the Swachh India programme. Through such measures we can prevent pollution in the sea and coastal areas. Sustainable Development Goal 14 is an important aspect. According to 14.1, by 2025, it is necessary to reduce all activities that affect the sea, and to reduce environmental pollution on land and to prevent littering in the sea.
• To reduce the impact of plastic waste, single-use plastics have been banned from July 1 this year. International Beach Cleanup Day is observed worldwide on the third Saturday of September.
• This year on September 17, various organizations of the Government of India, NGOs and local organizations have embarked on an effort to clean up the coastal areas. A number of initiatives are being taken with the aim of cleaning all the beaches of India with the slogan "Clean Sea Safe Sea".
• During these activities, scientific data on how litter accumulates in the ocean will be collected. How this garbage affects the sea water and the microorganisms that live in it and the clean beach area will be studied.
• In this campaign, organizations including the Department of Geography, Ministry of Environment and Forest Protection, Climate Change, National Health Mission, Indian Coast Guard, National Disaster Management Authority, various departments of the Central and State Governments, social organizations and educational institutions are jointly conducting this campaign.
• As our country celebrates its 75th Independence Day this year, a team of 75 volunteers has been formed and cleaned every kilometer of 75 beaches. 75 beaches have been identified across the country for this.
• The People's Campaign for Clean Sea Safe Sea will last for 75 days. This will make the sea and coast in India cleaner. The campaign for this was launched on July 3 and is ongoing.
• This campaign will be carried out among the general public. The beach cleanup campaign will be conducted live and through video. This will create a sense that we need to change our lifestyle and habits in order to protect the sustainability of the environment. An app called "Echo Mitram" has been developed for this campaign.
• Through this app, members of the public can register to volunteer for the beach clean-up event to be held on September 17.
