- ஆஷா பணியாளர்கள் என்பவர்கள் (Accredited Social Health Activists) கிராமங்களில் மருத்துவ சேவை புரியும் பெண் பணியாளர்கள் ஆவர். 8-ம் வகுப்பு படித்த 25 முதல் 45 வயது வரை உள்ள கிராமபுற பெண்கள் ஆஷா பணியாளர்களாக நியமிக்கப்படுவார்கள்.
- இந்தியாவில் 2005-ம் ஆண்டு தேசிய கிராமப்புற சுகாதார இயக்கத்தின் (National Rural Health Mission) கீழ் இவர்கள் நியமிக்கப்பட்டனர். ஒரு கிராமத்திற்கு அல்லது 1000 பேருக்கு ஓர் ஆஷா பணியாளர் என்ற விதிகளை அடிப்படையில் இவர்கள் நியமிக்கப்படுகின்றனர்.
- ஆஷா பணியாளர்களுக்கு ரூ.3000 ஊதியமாக வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. இதைத் தவிர்த்து பல்வேறு ஊக்கத் தொகைகள் வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
- தமிழகத்தில் ஊக்கத் தொகையுடன் சேர்த்து ரூ.6000 ஊதியமாக வழங்கப்படுகிறது. பல மாநிலங்களில் மிகவும் குறைவான ஊதியம் மட்டுமே இவர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
- இந்தியாவில் ஊரக பகுதிகளில்தான் அதிக ஆஷா பணியாளர்கள் உள்ளனர். நகர்புறங்களில் குறைந்த ஆஷா பணியாளர்கள்தான் பணியாற்றி வருகின்றனர்.
- இந்தியாவில் மொத்தம் 10 லட்சம் ஆஷா பணியாளர்கள் உள்ளதாக மத்திய அரசு தெரிவித்துள்ளது. இதில் அதிபட்சமாக உத்திர பிரதேசத்தில் 1,64,523 பேரும், குறைந்தபட்சமாக மிசோரம் மாநிலத்தில் 1170 பணியாளர்கள் உள்ளனர்.
- தமிழ்நாட்டில் மொத்தம் 5,360 ஆஷா பணியாளர்கள் உள்ளனர். ஆஷா பணியாளர்கள் போன்றே தமிழ்நாட்டில் கிராமம் வாரியாக கிராம சுகாதார செவிலியர்கள் தொடக்கம் முதலே பணியாற்றி வருவதால் ஆஷா பணியாளர்கள் குறைவான எண்ணிக்கையில்தான் உள்ளனர்.
- கிராம அளவில் வீட்டுக்கு வீடு சுகாதார வசதிகளைக் கொண்டு சேர்ப்பதுதான் இவர்களின் முக்கியப் பணி. குறிப்பாக கருவுற்ற பெண்களை கண்காணிப்பது, குழந்தைப் பேறுக்கு உதவுவது, பிறந்த குழந்தைகளின் உடல்நிலையை கண்காணிப்பது, முறையாக தடுப்பூசி போட அறிவுறுத்தல், விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துல் என்று சுகாதாரம் தொடர்பான 20 மேற்பட்ட பணிகளை இவர்கள் மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றனர்.
- கரோனா தொற்று காலத்தில் கிராம அளிவில் நோய் கட்டுப்பாட்டுப் பணிகளை மேற்கொண்டதில் இவர்களின் பங்கு அளப்பறியது. கரோனா தொற்று கட்டுபபாட்டு பணிகளை மேற்கொள்வது, குழுந்தைகளுக்கு தடுப்பூசி செலுத்துவது, விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துவது, கருவுற்ற பெண்கள் கண்காணிப்பது என ஒரே நேரத்தில் அதிக அளவு பணிகளை மேற்கொண்டனர்.
- குறிப்பாக, ஒரு நாளில் அதிக அளவு மக்களை கண்காணிக்கும் பணி இவர்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்பட்டது. இதனால், அதிக நேரம் பணியாற்றும் நிலை உருவானது. இவ்வாறு கரோனா தொற்று காலத்தில் மக்களை காப்பத்தில் மிகப் பெரிய பணியை செய்தனர்.
- Asha staff (Accredited Social Health Activists) are female medical staff in the villages. Rural women between the ages of 25 and 45 who have completed 8th standard will be recruited as Asha staff.
- They were appointed in India in 2005 under the National Rural Health Mission. They are appointed on the basis of the rules of one Asha employee per village or 1000 people.

- It has a maximum of 1,64,523 employees in Uttar Pradesh and a minimum of 1170 employees in Mizoram.
- There are a total of 5,360 Asha employees in Tamil Nadu. As in Tamil Nadu, village wise village health nurses have been working in Tamil Nadu from the very beginning and the number of Asha staff is less.
- Their main task is to bring home health facilities to the village level. In particular, they carry out more than 20 health-related tasks, including monitoring pregnant women, assisting in childbirth, monitoring the health of newborns, advising on proper vaccination, and raising awareness.
- Their role in carrying out disease control activities in the village during the corona epidemic was immense. They carried out a large number of simultaneous tasks such as carrying out corona infection control tasks, vaccinating infants, raising awareness, and monitoring pregnant women.
- In particular, they were given the task of tracking a large number of people a day. Thus, more working hours were created. Thus they did a great job of protecting the people during the corona epidemic.
