• WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE 2023: On November 26, 2007, the General Assembly announced that February 20 would be World Social Justice Day, beginning with the 63rd Session of the General Assembly.

Background

• WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE 2023: On June 10, 2008, the International Labor Organization (ILO) unanimously adopted the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Just Globalization. This is the third major statement of policy and principles adopted by the International Labor Conference since the 1919 ILO Constitution.
• It forms the Philadelphia Declaration on the Fundamental Principles and Rights of 1944 and 1998. The 2008 Declaration reflects the contemporary view of the ILO's mandate in the era of globalization.
• This landmark declaration is a powerful reaffirmation of ILO values. This is the result of the tripartite consultations that began following the report of the World Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization.
• Accepting this text, the governments of 182 member states, as well as representatives of employers' and labor organizations, emphasize the important role of our tripartite organization in helping to achieve progress and social justice in the context of globalization.
• Together, they promise to improve the ILO's ability to advance these goals through a decent work program. This Declaration institutionalizes the concept of ethical work developed by the ILO since 1999, placing it at the center of the organization's policies to achieve its constitutional objectives.
• This declaration comes at a crucial political moment that reflects the broad consensus on the need for a strong social dimension to globalization in achieving better and more just outcomes for all.
• It serves as a compass for promoting a just globalization based on decent work, as well as a practical tool to accelerate progress in implementing a decent work agenda at the national level.
• It reflects a production perspective by highlighting the importance of sustainable companies in creating more employment and income opportunities for all.
• The General Assembly recognizes that social development and social justice are essential for achieving and maintaining peace and security between nations and, in turn, that social development and social justice cannot be achieved in the absence or absence of peace and security. Respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms.
• It further recognizes that globalization and interdependence open up new opportunities for trade, investment and capital inflows and advances in technology, including information technology, for the growth of the global economy and the development and improvement of living standards around the world.

World Day for Social Justice Theme 2022

• WORLD DAY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE 2023: The theme of World Justice Day 2022 is ‘Achieving Social Justice through Proper Employment’. About 60 percent of the world's population, including men, women and young people, earn their living in the informal economy. These individuals often do not have Social Security and employee related benefits.
• To promote change in formal employment, it is necessary to reduce poverty and inequality, to promote decent work, and to increase productivity and sustainability. This year, the UN will work to improve the ability to enter the formal economy for the benefit of the people and institutions.
• Many countries are using new technologies to switch from informal work to formal employment through electronic systems, such as electronic systems, job detection and broad access to e-commerce.
